Well I am in Orlando at the Florida Professional Photographers convention for 2003. I stopped by the canon area and there it was with a grip on the camera. The Grip was black and the body was silver. I took some test shots and the A/F is faster than the D60 but not as fast as the 10D as I have 2 10D's and one D60. The camera is small and feels light weight smaller than the 10D. I did not feel the camera body is the kind that can take a lot of abuse as it is all plastic. I found the camera easy to use and was shooting in less that 30sec. I did put my CF card in and took some test shots but the canon rep asked me not to put them on the internet. I will take a shot of the cameras side by side tomorrow so you can all see. The camera is nice and the rep said it will sell for $999.00 for the kit and $899.00 for the body. But I think it will be lower. I also used my lens on the camera with is my travel lens the 28-135 IS and it worked great with the camera. This camera is to small for my hand and I would have to have the grip to make it work for me. The convention seems like a Fuji S2 and Nikon convention as I have see a lot of pros using the S2 and the DCS pro 14N form Kodak. I think the new digital rebel will be a winner for all of us pros and photography lovers. How ever the CMOS chip is not the same Chip as the 10D the canon rep showed me the chips in a case witch had all of the canon CMOS ships side my side and the CCD chip from the 1D. So put the idea to rest if you think the digital rebel will put your 10D to shame at a lower price it will not. Well bye for now I have a class soon on environmental portraiture. I will try to post the side by side shot of the digital rebel and the 10D.

Canon 300D is not an afterthought.
The Canon design team must have been planning a series of products, including 10D, 300D, 3D (or a digital equilvalent of EOS 3), and possibly a lower priced full frame EOS 1.
They have to make sure that 10D owners will not regret when 300D is available, and that even 10D owners will want 3D with eye focusing. Otherwise, it would be a marketing failure.
Today I went to Best Buy to get a 10D, but they would not match Infinity Camera's price or any Internet prices. Where can I get one at a reasonable price? I want to test autofocusing before getting one.

The Camera Shop in Kentucky?
Well... Do they have a good return policy if autofocusing is not working properly?

Thanks for the info. just as I thought the Rebel is a great entery level camera for the digital cross over folks that aready have a Canon lens or two. It's only a matter of time before 75% to 95% of amatures photo community cross over to digital. It seems that more and more Pros are and not just photo Journalists. There is even a new Digital Por Photogrpy magazine on the market

I wonder how many out there will actually consider getting this over the G-5 which is pretty much close to in the price range....

Well I did talk to the canon rep did ask if we will see the EOS 3 Digital camera to fill in the gap. He told me we will not see it any time soon. As the canon system has no gap in it and canon has introduced so many digital body's there is no need. If you look at the current digital set up it looks like the film line up so my guess the canon rep is full of crap and we will see an EOS 3 digital camera soon. It just makes sense to offer a camera with a full frame and more pix like a 8 or 9 pix chip and a 1D A/F system for around $2200 to $2899 to bridge the gap in the system. I also hope it has the same kind of body the EOS 3 film cameras had. Canon knows there is a market for a camera like this and they will not let any one pass them by so my guess is we may see it with in the next 12 months or less as canon has been very fast paced and is in the lead by leaps and bounds.
10D = Élan 7 film
300D = Rebel film
1Ds = 1V Film
1D = 1VHS
EOS 3 digital soon lets hope!

In a way I agree with the Canon rep, they have no gap, what they need next is the 1D upgrade not the EOS3 gap filler.
It is nice to know that the sensor on the 300D is not the same as 10D. Does it have smaller detectors on the chip?
My question for anyone who runs into a Canon Rep before me is, when are they going to release a very wideangle lens for the 1.6x format of the 10D? I would really like to get more the 85 degrees angle of view, without going to the fisheye. That to me is more important right now; unless they are going to release a 8-9MP FF with 1D/10D features for under $3000 in the next few months. One or the other.

Try the 14 mm F2.8corrective perspective Sigma It is sharp and solid and does not give a fish eye. it works very well on the D10
