Hello everyone! Help very gratefully received!! I bought a PowerShot A300 last week and I was very happy with it until I replaced the Flash Card. I put in a 256MB card from Twinmos which is compatible..but it wouldn't power up with the card in it. I then put in the original Flash Card and again, it wouldn't power up. (Brand new batteries in it by the way!).

I then removed the Flash Card and the camera powered up but obviously I couldn't do anything with it ("No Memory Card" error message).

I have now tried many times to get it to power up with either card. It managed it once (I got a memory error) but most of the time it's just dead apart from a barely audible 'whirring' sound.

What's gone wrong? Should I bring it back to the store or am I missing something?

Thank you for any help!

If you're not using NiMH rechargeable AA batteries (rated 1600 AH or higher), or Duracell Ultra AA batteries, it may just be a power issue.

Check the cards connector (where the pins in the camera go in) is there an obstruction there?

If power exists without the card, and both cards don't work, then it is likely something wrong with the camera.

Take it back to the store, perhaps they can replace it, or send it in for repair.

Thank you very much for those answers. I will check a few of those things out and if I have no luck I will take it back to the store.
Appreciated.

I may be stating the obvious but was the CF card inserted correctly?

Yup. The camera doesn't close if it's in the wrong way...
