HI,

I'm about to shoot some individual pictures of members of a band. They will be standing on a football field (probably in sun).

I have 2 550 flashes and the st-e2 with my 10D. The flashes and st-e2 are new, and I haven't spent much time using them.

Do you have any advice on shooting in sun using the flashes for fill? What settings? Ratio?

Thanks for any input!

I was faced with this situation. I wanted to get the two flash units up high, somewhere between the height of the camera and the height of the sun, so I stuck them on poles about seven feet up. 50-50 power split.

I set the camera to expose normally, which would have left the faces a little shadowed, and then the flash filled that in.

Truthfully, I would not mess with ratios. I would put their backs to the sun so they are back lit. I would put the camera on program and add +1 or +2 on the flash. Have a lens hood(a must). You should get a great picture. I really wouldn't fool around with ratios in that situation. I've done pictures like this and they are gorgeous. Flash can be right on the camera. Remember, keep it simple. If this looks good, try ratios in the future but you must learn to "ride the bike " before attempting to do tricks. good luck..Brian

Don't forget to turn on HF sync like I did one day.
