View Full Version : IXUS - CF or SD based as a 300D comapnion? (or something else)

I currently shoot a 300D with a grip, and find that it's a bit impractical to have with me 24/7, and as it's my birthday coming up next month, I'm looking at getting a little P&S to live in my pocket for those shots that present themselves day to day.

I've got a few CF cards hanging around, but I see that newer Ixus models use SD cards. I'd rather not shell out on more memory cards, but given that a 1GB SD card costs next to nothing these days, is it better to go with the newer model ixus (I'm looking at 4 or 5 megapretzel models) as it has the DIGIC II sensor, and presumably better firmware?

Or is there anything else I should be looking at, bearing in mind I'm hoping to spend as close to £100 as possible, and definately no more than £150.

Over to you, people who know about compact Canon digitals. :)

I get great use from my SD300 (IXUS 40) that's always in my pocket. I had similarly good use from my SD110 before it was stolen. (Leave it in your pocket, not sitting on a table.) I found both to be a good compromise on portability, image quality, image size and price.

There is a SD adapter to CF. I have just bought one and I am waiting for the arrival, but in this way I hope I can use the SD cards also in the 350D. We will see ...

several of the s series use CF. i have an S70 which is fantastic (but £200!)

if you are not averse to it, you can pickup an s50 or similar on these forums or soemwhere like ebay for around £100. quality camera that, as a bonus, does RAW

Over the weekend I managed to get a good price on an Ixus 400, which arrived at my desk about an hour ago. I did have a good look at the s series, but decided that the wife would go mad if I bought a P&S for me when she wants an Ixus, so Ixus as a present for her it would have to be.

All I need to do now is find out how to work the thing - tis a little different to the 300D :D

(phil, if you're reading this, DON'T tell my wife pls - tis a suprise an all that, ta)
