I took these picture a few week ago with my new Canon EF 70-300/4-5.6IS USM lens. I found the result very satisfying, but I also would like to see the opinions of the other photographers (I am just an ametour).

A couple things that I think of when I look at these..in #1 I think I would have liked to have seen the entire head and antlers, also the colors seem a bit flat. I would have liked to seen more bird and less tree. But over all..well done.!!

I agree on more bird less tree. The branch in the foreground really takes away from the picture. but overall i really like them!

The 2nd one looks sharper than the first.
Keep waiting for this lens,darn.

I think they are both nice shots IQ wise. But the croping on the first and the lack of zoom on the second are unappealing to me.

But I think you were trying out the extent of your lens and not so much looking to composition right?

Thanks for the comments and critique,

Actually I was just testing the image quality of the lens. I would like to learn the opinions about the sharpness and the colors.

For the bird I could not make it more closer, it is already 300mm.

I have this lens and really like it. I find it super sharp, contrast is pretty good. NO complaints with image quality.

It's failing, IMO, is crappy bokeh. About as smooth as cracked concrete! So I end up adding a little blur myself.

I like the clarity of the bird at 300mm. I'm seriously considering the lens and was impressed by the definition.

einsteinsauntie, I highly recommend this lens. It is not an L quality lens, but for an amateur like me, very satisfying.
