I heard some rumours some weeks back that Canon is coming out with a new 50mm f1.2L. My heart skipped a beat on that. I would appreciate if anyone can confirm whether this is true or something that is mere conjecture. Thanks!

Not anytime soon, partner. Instead they gave us a new and improved 85L. :(

I wish... They had a 1.2L in FD. I have one. I want one in EF though!

There was a Canon EF 50mm 1.0 about ten years ago - looked just like the 85L in shape - but it has not been made for some time. Occasionally they come up on ebay, if you really want one be prepared to part with some serious cash.

Seems a bit strange that Canon does not have a real fast prime in the 50mm range... supposed to be the easiest to manufacture.

Anyone got a clue why? For me, I'd like to have the f/1.2 85L not a 50L f/1.2 because the focal length suits me...

In the words of Al Borland, "I don't think so, Eddie." :D

I actually had both the 1.2 and 1.2L at one point. Picked up an absolutely mint 1.2 and shortly thereafter scored the 1.2L (also mint, but hood less so). I really didn't want to part with it, but it had to go.
