We had a cold spell a couple of weeks ago, and I decided to feed the poor titmouses and chicadees.

I've seen as many as five of these free-loaders on the feeder at once, but never anything quite like this.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind remarks. So cute! What's he holding on to?There's nothing to hold except the wooden roof of the feeder. Amazing, isn't it?

Thanks Jen, Rob, Stacey, Dimitri, Alan and Fee. They must have strong claws - strong enough to tear the wire screen and spill out the sunflower seeds. Still, s/he does look graceful there.

Squirrels will defeat almost any obstacle to get free food....You're very cool photos proves that.

I'm not sure they outsmarted the fence, rather it outsmarted me. Never
did get it working with a grounded feeder.

Nice capture Tupe, I've got one that hangs like that but he is gone in a flash if I try to get a pic. Love the tenacuty of these guys. Of course my feeder is squirrel proof...right!!:) ;)
