Hello,
Just wanted to know if anyone has used the canon 85mm 1.8 or the 100mm f2.0 with 1.4x or 2x teleconverters and what was your result?
Would you ever consider using those combos?
I was looking into the Canon 135mm f2.0 L but the price is a bit out there.
Thinking I can get the same kind of range with the 100mm f2.0 and a converter
Do I have to get canon converters?
Which off brands would you recommend?
Thanks guys

I've used a Tamron 1.4TX with the 85mm f/1.8, and was pretty happy with the results...

Please be advised every thing has its limitations and converters are no excepttions: sugest you go to fredmiranda.com and check reviews on converters and also go canonusa.com read what canon has to say on them also look up kenko converters and see what they have to say about their use's
you will find out that the limitations can slow things down a bit , I have a kenko pro300dg 1.4 which I will be using with my 70/300mm
DO/IS/USM lens in the near future and have read about hear and on the fredmiranda.com
Its time for some research work
Good luck and happy shooting

Hey steve,
Do you have any example shots to share?
How would you rate the sharpness of this lens?

I'd strongly recomend that you read the informative FAQ thread on Teleconverters at the top of this forum.
Canon TCs will not "fit" on either lens you mention.

Note that the Canon teleconverters are not compatible with the 85/1.8 and the 100/2. Some third-party TCs might work with those lenses, but not the Canon ones.
Did you see the Teleconverter FAQ (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=41922) sticky topic?

Woah!!
Canon sure knows how to cover their products. They tied up all ends so that either you take the shorter length non L and that only. Or get L and have expansion options.
SOB's Love the L lenses though :D
Thanks for that Info guys

I've used a (borrowed) 100mm f2. without the teleconverter, it's not as good as the 135L, in terms of sharpness, color, or contrast. At f2.8 it's excellent but at f2 it was soft. See this (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=105329) and especially this (http://www.wlcastleman.com/equip/reviews/85_100_135/index.htm)
A tc can only make it worse.

No T-con works "very well" with lenses shorter than 135mm focal length..
Canon there fore does not make there lenses shorter than 135mm "fit" the T-cons,. as this would promote people to try to use them in a less than ideal manner,. and thus be unhappy with the results.
