He was! :) And then he told his friend who sat next to the man in the photo, and both the young guys looked at me and I was tempted to take a pic of them too (mainly cos the other guy was quite cute). ;)

The shot on the tram is very evocative of the hum-drum working life most suffer day in day out. These are good Nouna. The first guy lost his feet which is a shame for him. I like the lady and the juicer shot. Number 2 is interesting too for the reason mentioned above.

Very nice - especially the juicer and the bus. I never seem to get a shot in the bus without people staring in the lens :)

Nice shots Claire. For me 2 and 3 have great composition, telling a real story of in the moment.

Unless "Claire" is misnamed, I'd say the items you mentioned aren't required.

Nice shots....I really, really like the last.

Very nice series Claire. Looks like you're getting the hang of it. have you tried shooting from the hip at times?

I thought the first one was the best.
You should tell us a bit more about the place you are shooting so we can get more of a sense of the place.

Hi all!
First of all, happy easter!

Thanks for all the nice comments. I mainly do my street/urban stuff while going in to work in the morning. I always take the train into Gothenburg (app. 15 mins) and then I either walk or take a tram to the office. I should really walk instead as it's damn close, but it's been so cold this winter, and now it's been raining. Ah yes, and I'm pure lazy at times! :p

Anyway, as I arrive by the train station every morning and got about half an hour before work starts, I at times just walk around trying to see if I can take photos of the people there.
The first two shots were taken on Thursday afternoon while waiting for the train home. As it was right before Easter everyone got off work early and there were tons of people at the station. The second image was taken on Wednesday on my way to the bank. There's a store selling gothic wear. I've been into it once. They got some really nice corsettes, but the prices are high as well. Bummer. I liked the outfit on the doll outside though, so took a shot.

Third photo is at the café I always have my morning hot chocolate. It's situated in Femman, Nordstan, a shopping center. I have quite a few photos of the café by now. hehe. I had just gotten my choco, and the girl was serving making juice to serve someone after me. I really like their juice machine, so I took a quick shot.

The last shot is on the tram and is shot from the hip. I shoot from the hip mainly when in the tram and on the train. The shutter is kinda loud though at times. I sometimes try to take a photo when there's a lot of noise around or I just stand looking in another direction, while pointing the camera at the subject and take the photo. Usually people will not react or if they look at me they think they heard wrong as I keep looking in another direction. LOL Or I just can't be bothered and just look at the LCD and they can keep wondering if I'm looking at a shot of them or something else. hehe

Ah, I have never dared to ask a guy for his number! Seriously, never. There was another guy I passed though in the station. Omg, I just kept staring at him as he had gorgeous eyes. He probably thought I was some nutcase...

I will see if I can post a B&W version of #4 some other day. :)

I think when you're a man its perceived to be a lot more "creepy" to take pictures of random people on the street. Maybe not.

I do think it's good to be a girl when it comes to taking photos of e.g. kids. Not sure it matters much if it's photos of other people in general.

Street snaps can be so tough ... on that thin line between getting a good shot and offending peoples. Just don't stop.

I agree completely...I was just being silly.

Anyway, it seems the longer I'm doing this, the more I'm getting away with it. Instead of the "hey, what's that weirdo doing?" look, I'm starting to get the "I guess we should let him take our picture" look. Maybe it's the way you act. Of course, I don't want people thinking I'm some pederass or whatever.

Not to take anything away from what Claire's doing her...she's leap years ahead of where I want to be with street photography...regardless of gender.

I think it's easier being a girl, but I still find it a bit scary as I'm kinda short, a girl and foreign looking. If someone gets mad with me, those things aren't very promising in an aggressive situation...

Today I took a bunch of shots in a shopping center though. Omg, those were the easiest urban/street shots I've ever taken in my life! I just pointed the camera in whatever direction and nobody cared. Very nice feeling.

Clair your shots are getting better and better. 2 and the juicer are the ones that caught my eye, i love shooting in places like cafe ect

I've shot hundreds of people up close and personal; people don't see it as creepy. Basically because it isn't creepy & i've shot children and it is all about the approach & i think you have that Clair

Doesn't matter what sex you are

A man taking pics of kids can be very interesting to say the least. I usually go to the parent immediatly after the shot and ask them for thier email address so I can send them a copy. I usually get a positive reaction this way. I have also asked permission prior to taking the shot but you loose some spontaniety.

I was trying on lenses at a local camera shop in this old 50's shopping center with the brick sidewalks and captured a man and his son on the bench waiting for mommy to come out of the store. I started snapping shots of them and I could tell he was getting uncomfortable (the boy was oblivious to it all). I asked him for his email address and I swear the man was giddy with excitement. I could hear him telling his wife all about it when she returned. In his reply to the email he must have thanked me 5 times. Inspiration...

The 3rd shot is my favorite. I can't explain why but it just captures me. I probably starred at it for 20 mins.

Thanks Sp00ks,
I'm surprised to hear you say you were extra captured by the 3rd shot. I would never have thought that when taking it . :)

I've shot kids here and there. I just may not post them online. But it kinda depends as well, I mean, kids grow fast. Very fast and their looks changes. I have some portraits shot a couple of years ago and I probably could post them now.

I have never ever asked a parent for permission to take a photo of their kid. I probably would if the situation counts for it.

I used to do it manually, but made an action for it nowadays. All my images are made into 600 x 400 pixels. Then I just add canvas to 610 for white first, and then to 620 for black. Voila!

I like two and five, and four would make a good stock shot with a release.

Nice shots, were most of those with the 50mm 1.8? Sorry if it's already somewhere in this thread, if so I missed it.
