Real World Digital Photography (http://www.digitalphotobook.net/book.html) by Katrin Eismann, 2nd Edition.

Great foundation for any digital photographer. Covers camera technology, techniques, and developing a digital workflow. It's easy to follow and gives a good head start on using Photoshop.

I've never bought a "how too" book they don't interest me. The books i own are books on artists & genres that i admire and continually inspire me to improve
