OK. I am happy with the 10D. Since a lot of people get scared when they see the 'bad focus' posts, I thought I might sound off my happiness with the 10D.
Maybe we should create a poll to stand as a statistic as to how many members here are happy, and how many not. Give the 'thumbs up if you're happy, and the 'angry face' if you're not.
P.S. I don't work for Canon. I am a food-stocker at a hospital.

No complains great color saturation too. My only complaint is the minimal shutterlag but I have a 1D for sports and this takes care of the rest.

I've taken more pictures in the last two months since I've purchased the 10D then the last 2 1/2 from using my Sony DSC-P1 (point and shoot 3MP). Just hit my 5000 picture yesterday. I've had no focus problem other then user error. What an awsome camera...still can't get over the great feel it has when taking pictures.
I have the Canon 28-135mm UMS IS lens and a 500D close up filter. Here are some samples:

When using the correct lens the sharpness is amazing.
I use a Sigma 70-210 f2.8 APO and I can't believe it's the same camera as when I used a 75-300III.

Canon Eos 10D is great camera. I'm shoot over 3000 frames and almost every picture is crystal clear, and for those not sharp is my fault, as it's not easy to shoot 1/30 105mm from hands :)
And, how don’t you know that those, who every day complain about focus issues are don’t N***n’s or F**i’s marketing manager :)
You’ll never know :)

I love mine! I am finding that some lenses are sharper than others....my 100 is awesome, the 24 less so. I am handholding most of the time and the 24 aways looks a little softer than the 100mm.
Now go figure that.

I love my 10D. After getting all of my lenses I took the whole setup into Canon and they checked them all. I did this because of the number of people that were complaining about the focus.
One thing that has paid off is making sure that you get good glass. If you buy a 200.00 lens you are going to notice some difference in the quality. I have bought nothing but Canon lenses and have tried to stay within the "L" series.

I presently own EOS D30, D60, and 10D. All three cameras are spot on with focus. The 10D is one of the earliest production runs delivered on March 28 right after the PMA show in Las Vegas. By far the 10D is currently best in class for price/performance.

My 10D has caused me to purchase more SLR film cameras. It's true!
Explanation:
I bought the 10D about three months ago. Since then, I've been so happy with it I've come to the realization that I'll never shoot film again. I sold my old EOS 650 body (I hadn't used it in the last 3-4 years anyway), and put my 40-year old Pentax S-2 up on the bookcase as a display piece. I decided it looked really ‘cool’ as a decoration, so I bought a few more vintage screw-mount Pentaxes and put them on display as well. (Actually, I've always had a passion for old mechanical SLRs)
Even though I've been taking pictures for over 50 years, I'm still something of a novice. Only recently have I had time enough to truly devote myself to my photography as an avocation, and I'm having a ball.
One thing about digital photography in general that bodes well for its future as an art form is the freedom to experiment that it affords.
My progression to the 10D has been as follows:
Kodak DC 25
Kodak DC 3200
Nikon 995
Canon G2
Another Canon G2 (a long story)
Canon S230
And finally, the 10D
I still own the DC 25 to remind myself that being the first kid on the block with a new technology cannot guarantee happiness.
I also have one of the G2---I gave the other to a friend. It's still a fine camera, and will probably remain my backup until I buy a replacement for the 10D. Besides, I invested a fair amount of money in the auxiliary lenses that Canon sells which makes it a fairly versatile instrument when pressed into service.
I bought the S230 to have a camera I could carry in my pocket. I now live in the desert and none of my shirts have pockets, so I loaned (gave) it to my brother-in-law who is still trying to figure out how to load the film.
There is no question the 10D has made me a better photographer. Although many will argue that ‘P&S’ cameras are very capable in the right hands, I am clearly not one of those people with the talent to extract really great pictures from a viewfinder camera.
Anyway, I love my 10D. I’m looking forward to future adventures with it.

I said that my 10D's are both off in focusing. That doesn't mean that I don't like the cameras. They have made me a lot of money and some great pictures. I just wish that Canon would have put the same focusing system as I have in my 1N film camera. I'm never out of focus with that. Luckily depth of field takes care of my focus problems and I just can't shoot wide open. OVerall, the 10D is a superb camera. I think the next generation will have a better focusing system since Canon has had so many returns and complaints. So,I guess you could say that I am mostly pleased with my 10D's. I think sending them in would be a waste of time from what many others have said.

Belmondo,
I like the history in your post :)
I used to collect old power tools for display for similar reasons. (the really old ones,.. cast brushed aluminium housings,.. andlarge enamel print on them saying things like "SPEEDMATIC" :D
My Camera histroy is much shorter.
A fixed focus 110 compact when I was a kid.
Various fixed focus $25.00 35mm models.
A few waterproof disposables... :)
Then it was a refurbished Agfa 1280 digital.....
this is when I started to enjoy being behind the camera...
An Olympus 2100UZ followed and that was the camera that got me hooked. I took thousands of photos over about three years with that camera and discovered wildlife photography.
Soon it became clear that I needed an SLR system and lenses for wildlife... so I drooled over the release of the D30,.. then the D60,.. but it wasn't until the 10D that I thought I could go for it,. and here i am :D

That's what you said initially, and you also had the angry face emoticon, so to me it meant you're not happy with the 10D's focus...
It's OK that it made you money, but my whole point was the focus issue anyway, and not the 10D as a whole.
Your opinion is important no matter what :)

One of the things I really love about the old Pentaxes and other SLRs of the era is the feel off them. Much like the 10D, the older Pentaxes are solid, and they're heavy. Compared to a modern DSLR, these old cameras feel tiny. Mainly, though, they're solid. They don't feel all 'squishy' like so many of the consumer-grade SLRs of today.
I also love old tools. Somewhere out in my garage I have a WWII-era Black and Decker drill. It has a heavy cast aluminum case, and still runs like a watch. I don't use it because after 60 years, I feel it's entitled to a rest. Still, however, it would do a fine job if I ever asked it to.

along with my 10d i also use a large format camera, precisely because it is the only camera/lense combination that gives me tack sharp focus from foreground to horizon. the price i pay is the time it takes me to make the necessary adjustments, so i use it when time and subject movement are not a problem. (i love photographing lighthouses). i've had several autofocus canons and none have focused as well as my manual focus f1, so when i have the time i focus manually, use a tripod and even mirror lockup anything to lessen camera movement and internal vibrations. my 50mm fd lense has a depth of field scale on it which i found easy to use and invaluable as i could use that and not focus at all! its a pain, but a tripod is invaluable, when i don't use one i count well-focused photos as a blessing from the photo gods. please don't misunderstand me, i'm not saying there aren't real problems with the 10d's focus. just passing along some things i've learned on the way. i'm still working on posting photos, though.

Thanks for the suggestion. I really should give Canon a shot and may do so. I can get by with one for a month. Thanks
These are fantastic cameras and if they would focus properly, this could be the best camera I've used in 30 years of photography. Digital images are so much fun to manipulate and to get a photo quality 8x10 in less than 10 minutes completely blows my mind. I print things on pictures and people wonder how I did that. I really love digital and have a hard time buying a roll of 220 portra film for my 645 cameras for close to $10 and then paying to develop and print. I wish I had the courage to to a whole wedding digitally. The focus scares me. Maybe I need a 1Ds. I love this forum and the information I get on here is just wonderful. Thanks to all who participate and especially to Pekka who started this. This is a genuine service to all of us "Canonites".

Oh how I would luuuurve a 1DS :) They are veryvery nice indeed! I know Uk wildlife photographer Andy Rouse ( www.andyrouse.co.uk ) uses the 1Ds now and sells a *LOT* of images.
I understand what you say about going to do the wedding digital. I don't do weddings, but if I come across a nice shot that could be a real keeper I will try to use digital, and also capture it on film too (I keep my EOS 33 loaded with velvia handy on long days out :) and I just got an EOS RT to keep in the car :) )
How close to a canon service centre are you? Sometimes being able to talk to an engineer about your exact problems helps a great deal.
Good luck :)

I live in Moline,Illinois which is close to Chicago. Not close to any Canon service center. My brother is the director of the DNR in the state of Illinois and they just bought a 1DS for their magazine. I can hardly wait to try it. I've never held one or even seen one up close. Appreciate your comments Richard.

I have had a succession of Canon EOS SLR
cameras. I still have a 7E and an EOS 3.
The 10D is my first digital. It focuses just
as well as the others. I think a very key
question that needs to be asked is whether
people with problems had any Canon EOS
cameras before. If you are already used
to how their autofocus works there is
less adjustment to the digital auto focus.

The 1ds is a great camera...it just feels good...and the sound of the shutter just does not compare to the 10d's "quieter" shutter...it just sounds professional. We have 2 10d's and a 1ds and shoot everything digital...weddings...studio portraits...sports...you name it. Partner these cameras with the Konica QD-21 printer, and you can make $$$$!!!

Answer: no, never before. But I am diligent and have read everything I could find about the subject, having upgraded from a Canon G1 which had many of its own quirks relating to AF.
For my 10D tests I have used 2-D and 3-D targets, horizontally- and vertically-contrasting targets, parallel and perpendicular (to the lens) targets, and always with the focus point assigned. I really don't think it's user error, and honestly don't find any special insight necessary for using EOS AF once one understands the basic functionality.
I have either gotten two misaligned 10Ds (they are of similar serial numbers so likely came from the same batch) or I have a bum lens. The latter point I will determine this weekend, as I am buying another and will run the same tests with the new one.
Cheers,

I have had my 10D for almost 3 months and have taken over 5000 photos.
I have tested the focus on my Canon 50 f1.8 and my Canon 28-135 IS and my Canon 75-300 III. All 3 focus where they are supposed to.
Some of my pictures have been good, others have been crap, that's the way it goes. Sometimes the camera focuses on the wrong thing, it seems that the focus point is bigger than the square that you see in the viewfinder.
I am very happy with my 10D and I will probably use it for about 5 years. Then I will replace it with Canon's new full frame 24Mpix camera that costs under $2k. (Just guessing, I don't really have the precognitive abillity that I would need to know this)
