Hi

I would like to know if anybody is actually using a TFT or LCD screen and a primary display, and if it is "usable" in a photographic context (i.e. viewing, working on digital image)

I expect many of you to say that CRT is the only way to go. Could be interesting to know why TFT are not a good alternative. The only restriction i can think of is the limited vewing angle, but moderns TFT are more capable than before on this point, and the same applies for contrast ratio. Are they any other issues to consider?

thank you all for your answers.

...but not color,..

The CRT still beats LCD for color. Plus,. you can adjust the color of your CRT to match prints more readily. LCDs are very limited.

Lastly,... LCDs can look good,. they can look spectacular in fact,. but do they reproduce the image acurately,. no. What you see on an LCD has little to do with what you see in real life.,.. or on film,. or on a print from a digital.

So yes,. as you predicted,. I am one of the staunch CRT crowd,. so much so that I got the best there is. A Sony 24" FW900 aperture grill.

Hi,

I thought I might add my 2c in. if you have a look at the following topic, it gives some info on the subject from a number of people on this fourm.

the other point that I would also like to make is that TFT screens are starting to match the colours normaly found in CRT screens.

due to the price coming down and the fact that TFT screen are getting more suited to games, which will speed up the development.

for more information you can vist http://sysdoc.pair.com/ which is Toms Hardware Guide. which has usefull informatiuon.

hi again

thank you for your point of view CyberDyneSystems, i knew i was missong some points on the TFT matter, and it is when one always need a hard but like you!! ;) (only joking).
thank you nzl-g3user also, for the forum poll. quite interesting actually.
I am presently using a 19inches Dell trinitron CRT, which is very fine indeed. but the 18" TFT screens are simply too sexy (slim indeed). However, i am concerned with the color issues.

thank you guys.

I have both a TFT (brand-new top of the line laptop) and my 19" Sony Trinitron CRT on my main computer. I will not edit/post-process photos on the TFT at all. The technology has come a long way, but it still has a long way to go for us. For normal computer use they're awesome. For photo editing, they are way below par.
