Nice capture! The only things that I see are the hotspot on the right side of her hair and the corner of the table in the bottom left, But other wise a nice picture of a lovley couple,

Pictures like this of Moms & daughters are always special. Perhaps increasing the DOF so that both mom & baby's faces are in focus, and picking a better backround would help improve this shot. It would be great to see those amazing blue eyes of the baby in perfect focus. Thanks for posting this picture John.

Yup! I picked a terrible place for the pic, but it was just a snapshot and the window was behind her (hotspot on the hair). Also, the table is something I didn't see until after the pic was taken (how annoying!).
I think I need to pay more attention to detail when I'm composing... Well, at least this one didn't have a telephone pole growing out of her head or anything! :-)

More good advice!
I'm still getting used to the 30mm Sigma 1.4! It has this crazy DOF compared to my kit lens! :-)
Thanks, both of you for the pre-shot criticism. Would you adjust anything else in PS? I added a warming filter after posting this pic, and is seemed to help a little. Also, I'm editing in Adobe1998, so I may have messed up the conversion to sRGB a little, but I think it's pretty close...

OK! Here's a pic of Emily. It's about the best one I have today. (She was a little cranky!) I need to work on getting better lighting for her eyes. Baby eyes are amazing! :-)

Thanks for the comments!
Would any of you blur the face a little? I tried to soften it, but it turned out kindof bad...

they have wonderful faces.. I'd go back and re-shoot them for sure.. there are half a dozen ideas that come to mind.. But i'd definately play up the babies eyes there incredible.. I'd also try to get them at the same eye level and get rid of some of the clutter around them.. but for a snapshot it's really precious and sticks in your mind.. you can tell the mom is comfortable which can be the real challenge at times.

Interesting comments so far. I didn't even notice the background because I found enough interest to draw me to the subject(s). Both of them looking at the photog would be a big improvement IMO. When we shoot parents and children we tell the parents to look at the camer/photographer and smile and we will take care of getting the child to look at us...it generally works.
And she is quite attractive with a very cute baby. I really like Mom's smile.

Yes, I definitely need to work on my posing technique! I've never directed anyone to do anything before, so I generally just snap. I think with a little direction, the picture could have been a lot better!
The mom definitely has a Mona Lisa smile going on, I think!
I appreciate all the comments/criticism! I think paying attention to the details around my subjects will help substantially! :-)
