I am wondering (from an experianced macro photographer) what, if any, filters you keep in the bag for macro work, thanks, Ian.

If by filters, you mean diopters, they work great for certain subjects. I'm a bug shooter, myself and I use Hoya +4 and +2 diopters extensively with my Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens with very good results. Supposedly they have some distortion or fuzziness at the edges, but the edges are usually cut out due to the 1.6 magnification factor on the 10d, and the subject is usually not located at the edges, so they're filled with blurry background anyway. Hope that helps!
