If you're after fast standard lens, can I recommend this beauty. I received mine today. I wasn't expecting much for £270.00 but boy, was I mistaken. This lens looks good, is compact, and has a very good feel to it, without being too light or heavy. The zooming action is very smooth, as is the manual focus ring. Focus speed surprised me by being very quick, only let down by sound of the autofocus motor, which resembled the sound of a small remote control car you can buy from toy stores zipping in and out. To be fair, it only sounds like that if it has a long way to focus (lets say, close up to infinity and back) Otherwise its more than acceptable. Picture quality on my D60 was very good. Even wide open could be classed as "good". I was most pleased considering what I paid. I did a comparison test with my Canon 17-40L f4 that I bought last week. With both lenses at 28-40mm and an aperture of f4 up to f8, I was honestly hard pushed to see the difference between the two lenses. This actually gave me a bad feeling because the canon cost me £700. Are" L " lenses overated do you think? I remember being a little disappointed with the Canon lens because I was expecting razor sharp images back. Instead they were hardly different to the 20-35 f3.5-5.6 that I part- exed which I classed as good anyway, but wanted better for my SLR....as you do. Should I have expected better? Any comments about the Canon lens from 17-40 owners appreciated!
