I have a 300D and have been eyeballing a 20D, do you guys think it would be worth the investment to sell my 300D and snag a 20D?

Is there something about your 300D that you don't like that the 20D can fix for you?

If answer is yes and the price is worth it and you can afford it then go for the 20D.

If the answer is not really, then don't waste your money. Save it for a camera that will actually make a difference to you.

The 20D is an improvement in terms of MP and auto-focus and will give you some features that your 300D doesn't, but will it make a real difference in your photographic style? I would argue that it won't really make a lot of difference.

Now if you didn't have a camera I would recommend the 20D over the 300D without a doubt as being the better value.

Just my opinion,

Yes. I started with the 300D and eventually moved up to the 20D. The improvement is worth it. You will definitely enjoy the instant on of the 20D over the 300D along with the extra MPs and features.

Just my opinion,

I have a 300D/Drebel and it is a limited camera. Very small buffer, no user selectable metering or AI-servo and in M mode you cannot adjust shutter speed and appeture at the same time. To adjust appeture you must hold down a button and turn the wheel at the same time.

I would like a 20D - some of the same features, functions as my EOS-3, but I'll be getting a 5D soon instead.

My point is only get an upgrade if there is a reason to upgrade. Don't just do it because it is a newer toy. I will grant even I used a flimsy excuse to get the 10D as my backup camera when I had a perfectly good D60 and Kodak DC4800. But I skipped the 20D because it didn't really add anything to what I had. Instead I saved for over 6 months to get a camera that would make a difference. And I am saving again in anticipation, but I have a minimum goal and if it doesn't meet it, I will keep my money for when it does.

I also applied this logic to 24-70/2.8L (I still have 28-70/2.8L) and don't plan to get 85/1.2L II because it doesn't make much difference to me. Are they overall better then what I have, you bet. But they are not worth the money and they won't make any difference in my photography.

So only upgrade when it will make a difference to you to do so.

Just my opinion,

Yes.
The 20D is a reasonable upgrade.

I made the same upgrade back in January. Basically, I needed the better high-ISO performance of the 20D. If I didn't need that, I'd probably still be shooting with the 300D...

i think that just by asking the question, you really mean ' I want to' - and in these hedonistic times, that is enough!
It also suggests you feel it is time to move on, and given that 20Ds are such good value right now, if you can afford to upgrade without going hungry or barefoot or making your loved ones suffer (very much) then go for it!

Sure is. I had a 10D and when I came across a seller on POTN that was in my hometown I jumped on the chance. I have not regretted once. (well maybe once). Its the best $1150 CAD I have ever spent!

If you can afford to go for it. You will be amazed at the difference it actually makes.
