View Full Version : Quick filesize question

I was thinking of buying an EOS 10D, with the idea of making a few sales via the stock photography route.
However after a look at Alamy.com, the minimum file size of the original digital file needs to be 14MB, and any reviews on the EOS 10D cite a maximum of around 8MB only!
Which cameras, if any, can produce that sort of size original file?

Thanks,
Susan

Aha...... that explains it.

The only other niggle I have is the back/front focusing problem that one or two people seem to have. Can't that be corrected by focusing the camera manually? (Perhaps after using the autofocus initially, and assuming the lens allows this). Or is the focusing not particularly visible through a digital SLR viewfinder? (I've only used a Canon film SLR before, although I do have a couple of "lesser" digital cameras).

Sorry for the multiple questions!

Thanks
Susan

I use a 10D with RAW. The RAW file is only 5-10Mb (dependant on what I am shooting) however once I have converted to 8 bit tiff the file is 18Mb (16 bit is 36Mb :) )

The number of focus problems is actually very small. You will see a higher number here because you are more likely to hunt the net and read forums if you have a faulty 10D :)
It can be fixed by focusing manually if you have an issue at all
As for how the viewfinder looks and how visible the focusing is, I liken the 10D to the EOS 33 /Elan 7 - viewfinder is pretty much the same really.

Thanks to all for the prompt replies! I'm convinced.

I finally found a store that has it in stock, they are keeping it for me until tomorrow morning, so I'd better polish up the plastic and get on that bus! 8-))

Brilliant forum!

Don't spend time polishing the plastic, get an earlier bus! :D :)

Just back in fact! The proud owner of an EOS 10D....
In fact the shop I went to (Photo Factory in Dundee) said they had a few in stock. It cost me £1299.99, and although they had a 9 month "no interest" plan which would have been ideal, I didn't have any proof of address in my bag, so I had to put it on my card after all.....darn!
The young man suggested applying for a credit card with an interest free transfer so that I could avoid paying the interest till I had saved the full amount. Quite a good idea!

Thanks for the encouragement. I may post a pic or two once I have things set up.
