I am looking for a lens to shoot most sports in bad light coupled with a 10D. Seems to me that this would be perfect when combined with 1.4X and 2X converters. This would cover a range of effective focal length from 320mm to over 600mm from f1.8 to f3.5. That is a lot of bang for rhe buck.

Has anyone tried this lens with the afore mentioned teleconverters?

Rented one several times. Never shot it with teleconverters. so I can't say how it would work. However the 200mm f1.8L is arguably the single greatest piece of glass canon has ever manufactured. I'd do things of questionable morality just to own one. I can't justify the expense though....

If you want one you had better act fast though. The 200mm f1.8L has been discontinued and is out of stock most places. This lens will hold it value so expect to pay fairly close to full price on the used market as well. There is no replacement lens announced from canon at this time so when they're gone, they're gone.

good luck to you.

Awesome lense. I used this lense at the Portland International Raceway shooting the Indy Cart Races this summer. I used a 1.4 converter. The results are below:
