Is there any way to check the exact focal length just used? I know that the exif data has it, but I cannot dig it out from the camera only (10D + 17-40L).

I just checked my 10D and can't find a way to find out the focal length for the shots on the card.

I think that you will probably have to rely on the exif data.

Just out of curiosity, why do you need this info so immediately.

I am in the middle of a process where I compare different lenses to each other.

Just out of curiosity, don't your lenses have these small white figures written on the outside, like in the old times before digital?

When I look very carefully, indeed there are small white figures. Always wondered what they are for! Nice to know why. ;)

Using those little figures and 50mm in my zoom, the image is not the same as in my prime 50mm. I have to use 52-55mm in my zoom to get the same image in both lenses. Maybe this is ok and normal, but I would expect that using 50mm in any lens the outcome would be the same image.
