Please check out my photos of my son Zane playing highschool football. Taken with a D30 and 10D. Comments invited but I am new to digital photography so don't be too harsh on me!

Thanks

A very good beginning with great cameras. I could only recommend maybe longer and faster lenses. Sports photography takes a little to become accustomed to and the longer and faster the lens – the better! I personally shoot mostly portraits in my home studio but have taken a share of sports amateur photo shots. Here are a few with both a D60 and 10D using a 100-400L and 70-200L that I have found to be ideal sports lenses and couldn’t be happier with!

Wow!! Nice football photos! Pretty much puts mine to shame! Thanks for the advice. Yes, I know I need a longer and faster lens. I have been looking at the Sigma 50-500mm zoom. Any comments on that lens? Does $700 sound about right for it?

Here are some of mine from the Finnish Maple League. Most taken with either 17-40 L or 50 1.4 II and my 10D. No post-processing. Yes, I am trying to get a longer piece of L glass! Rip on me all you like - I am new to this!

1024 X 680 (sorry if that size is too big!)

Shutter speed way too slow ...

Shutter speed OK, but the lens is too short (or I was too far away!) NOTICE where the ball is? That is what happens when the punter makes a run for it ...

Too far away, but the TD catch is on its way.

Well, I can't afford the canon L glass so I just ordered a Sigma 50-500 zoom that I have read good things about in this forum. Hope it works...
