This is an excellent portrait and no, it is not too shadowed IMHO, in fact that adds to the shot which demonstrates a close and loving relationship.

The only thing I do find a bit distracting and that I would clone out is the white spots in the hair that appear to be the surf behind them.

I like the shot, but the person on the left is squinting a bit. It's hard to hold your eyes open in the sun....
