View Full Version : 4x6's are 4.5x6's on S400

When I shoot images on a Powershot S400, all the file sizes come in with a size ratio of 1.333. All of the camera's compression options offer the same ratio, just at different resolutions. The manual recommends using 1600 x 1200 for 4x6 photos. But 1600 divided by 1200 is 1.333, and 6 divided by 4 is 1.5.
When I shoot in 1600 x 1200, the files are 4.5 x 6, not 4.6.
Then I have to crop or squish the photos to get them to fit on 4x6 paper. This is a pain.
What am I doing wrong???
Thanks

Don't worry, my S45 is taking full size picture of 2272x1704 pixels. Aspect ration : 1.3333

So I have the same problem as you have. I've never done a search, and I'm asking the question.... is there any digital camera that are taking picture with a aspect ration of 1.50

-- after a little search, yes there are.
SLR's are doing it!
Canon EOS 1D : 4064x2704 = 1.5029

Compact aren't
Canon G5 : 2592 x 1944 = 1.3333

Nothing is wrong. No CCD will fit all common paper sizes (4x6 [ratio:1.5], 5x7 [ratio: 1.4], 8x10 [ratio: 1.25], 11x14 [ratio: 1.27]...) without some cropping here and there.
