EXIF Data

I've puchased my 10D a week ago & while reviewing the exif data file in adobe it has all of my pictures created on 1/1/80 12AM. I just would like to know is this normal? My modified date is the correct until I change my format from jpeg to tiff. I like to use the data as a time stamp.

Just an update I've being playing with Canons software and it keeps the original time & date stamp of the photos including info on my old Olympus D460 but neither Elements 2 or PS7 does. Unless I'm doing something wrong.
