Hi, I'm new to this form. I have been reading it for a while and decided to join. My 20D shutter button don't work sometimes. The camera will focus, when I press the button, the focus com light will go out and the camera wont take the pic'. Then I will push the button down again and towards the lens and it works. The camera is new and I've had it for 3 weeks. Does it need to break in some or is it defective?? Thanks.

First of all, welcome to the forum. :)

You might be having a problem getting a focus lock in those situations where the camera is not firing. If the lens is not focused, the camera will not take a picture (unless you are in AIServo mode). You will know if you have a focus lock because the focus light in the viewfinder will light up and stay lit. If it just blinks once and then goes off, the camera could not focus.

I sprayed some contact cleaned into the button and it seems to be working better. I had the camera set on one shot when it acted up. I set it to AI servo and it hit every time, thanks Leo..........

Regarding teh AIServo setting, just be aware that the shutter will release whether the picture is in focus or not so don't resort to using it just to circumvent the problem with the camera not releasing in OneShot or AIFocus mode. Hopefully your problem was just a dirty contact issue and nothing more. :)
