Canon 300D will be released soon and the market price will be around US$899.

Due to the new model, there are also many 2nd hand D60 on market and ask for just US$800-900 compare to original price of US$2000.

If a 2nd D60 is about the same price as 300D, which one should be better?

Hi Tony,

In my opinion, the 10D would still be better. The 10D is available now for less than US$1400. By the time the 300D comes out, I'm guessing that the price will drop a bit more. To me, it's well worth the extra cash. But that doesn't really answer your question, does it?

Okay, my vote would go to the 300D mainly because it's newer. Same sensor and DIGIC processoras the 10D, 7 focus points as opposed to 3 on the D60, 6 white balance positions as opposed to 5 on the D60, EXIF 2.2 JPEG, and it's lighter (although that's not necessarily a good thing).

On the other hand, the plastic body of the 300D bothers me. I guess the D60 would feel better in the hand. Also, metering appears to be only automatic unlike on the D60 (and 10D) where you have 3 choices.

By the way, I found this forum through your website. And I found your website through your posts on DV Info. So I think it's fitting that my first post goes to you. :)

After reviewing your homepage, you take a lot of photo's (pretty good shots) :) you have no choice but to go with the 10D. Why settle for yesterday old techno (D60) or come up short with the rebel. Remember we're going into the last financial quarter of the year this is make it or break it after some major setbacks for our world this year. With the new Rebel Canon would have the digital market covered on every level. If you are serious about photography why go withlow tech or second hand. Long run the 10D will cover your cost.

Thanks for your comment. I am consider 10D too but as I am not a professional so many features I may not use at all. Further in digital age, nearly every year has new model and the price difference may save us money for next model or new lens.

Tony, I understand your position, and I am not trying to persuade you. However, it is important to understand what 10D is capable of doing. I also agree with Poboy and Aylwin.:)

I was in Hong Kong just a week ago. These two pics show what 10D can do. The first scene is from the Dragon Trail. The second is a night scene in Hong Kong harbor, handheld and obviously, no flash will reach Bank of China. D30 can't do this (maybe D60, I am not certain).

I understand about not being a pro, I've own and shot fiilm since 1977 and never took a class, did alot of reading but that was it. Once my income increased I started buying midgrade equipment and did not truly realize that I had alot of camera and it can be fun to play with it. Over the last year since I started attending classes I've realize how much fun it can be attemping the artistic/creative side of photography while using my Elan II. The 10D is a midgrade camera not a pro, The pros are using 1D & 1Ds $8000.00 and medium format. Canon just help out us folks who whats to be creative and yet maintain our normal standard of living. I believe the Rebel will be a decent camera but for the serious hobbist you can't go wrong with the 10D and I'm sure you'll get your money worth before having to upgrade. I still use my Elan II and have no problems with it and its over 6 years old. So I'm expecting to get that out of my 10D

Hi Tony,
If you are considering a new DDLR & not a professional photographer (you said), I suggest you can consider Canon 300D. It is lighter in weight & gets almost 10D features. Of cos it's cheaper than 10D.

My Opinion. Go with the 300d, New, under warrantee, plus how many time will a non professional use the few extra option that to 10d gives you. You can use the extra $$$ for lens/memory/filters/ tripods. Plus its lighter to carry and the best camera is the one you carry with you. Just one opinion.

I have my D60 and love it. The pictures referenced on this site from a 300D are not any better that what you would /will get with a D60. It is not only the camera but the lens and the person using it that counts.
