The Auto 66 Club were at Croft Circuit today. To say there was a variety of machinery on show is a bit of an understatement...

Scooters, Mopeds, call em what you like. Either way it's one of the strangest forms of racing i've seen yet. They had a "Sound of Thunder" class. I reckon this was the Sound of breaking wind class

Not sure if this is being friendly or just plain cheeky. Giving the thumbs-up to whoever is behind you..

You'd think he'd get a helmet that matched his bike & leathers...

Someone got a bit lost...

As usual, the sidecars were good to watch..

I must admit, by the end of the day i was pretty bored, so i took to shooting through the fence for some different angles...

Ok so it's a pan, but at least there's more than 1 bike in it ;)

Whilst we all enjoy our Motorsport here, i think it would be appropriate if we spare a thought for the family of the Marshall who was killed at Oulton Park yesterday. Without those ladies & gents we'd need to find something else to do on a weekend...

Yup, them be scooters and yup, they do look odd. Can't be and odder than the lawn mower racing we do over hear. ;-)
Great captures of the chairs. The surely look intense.

Geoff, it looks by your comments I did the right thing giving it a miss. I echo your comments regarding we in this forum taking a moment to spare a thought for the marshal who was killed at Outlon Park yesterday. That is the second marshal to be killed by a bike at Lodge, the first was some years ago. Bikes can be like missiles when the rider parts company with them at speed, and they can easily go over the barriers. It is something as a photographer I am very much aware of.

I know all the marshals at Oulton Park and it is the sort of news I hope never to hear.

Nice pictures Geoff. I like the one of the scooters going into the corner especially. I managed to get there yesterday but did'nt get half as many pictures as normal due to missing first couple of races, experimenting with settings with 2x tc and trying a monopod for the first time (made the mistake of buying a £20 Jessops pod which has too much movement on the head).
I thought there was some excellent racing, especially in the 125 open. Did you see Alex Lowes No 222 go?
Thoughts go out the marshalls family.

I thought the races were too short. It seemed like a case of quantity over quality which was a shame as there were some nice bikes on show.I don't see the point of 4/5/6 lap races in 3 sessions, apart from the scooters. If those races were any longer half the crowd would be asleep.

I think i'll give the 2 wheel stuff a miss until the BSB hits Croft, even then i might restrict myself to Qualifying day to avoid the crowds.

Missed these Geoff. Nicely done through the fence for the tussle into Clervaux. I also like the shot of the sidecars between Sunny In and Sunny Out.

Still enjoying that new lens I take it?

Cheers,

Simon.

Thanks Simon.

I like that angle up at Sunny as it cuts out the Ambulance and assorted Marshall's cars that park there. I get right up to the access gate as it's as near to trackside as possible without being "naughty" :)

Strangely enough none of those are 120-300 shots. The 2nd, 3rd and last are all 70-200's and the rest are with the 100-400L. Must make a point of posting a few shots from it :)
