Nice work and good job.
I would maybe consider pulling back a little on the zoom to give the cars some space to move into across the frame, much like #4
#1 is very nicely done :)

Where did you get yourself positioned?

outside of corners 1, 2 and 3

got some good access between turns 1 and 2 but the race marshall came and told me off becasue i wasnt behind a fence

he was very good about it though, he told me a marshall had been killed at croft last week after a car crashed into his marshall post and advised thats why i had to be behind a fence

i was only trying to get some unrestricted views, honest guv :D

It wasn't Croft, it was Oulton Park and the Marshall was hit by a flying bike, very sad indeed.

I'm not having a go mate but you really should stay behind the fences. Too much of that sort of thing will lead to them banning Amateur photographers from tracks and none of us want that :)

As for the shots, i rather like the Porker, is that the new Cayman ?

I had a bit of a pep talk by one of the donnington marshals on my first day shooting there, first thing he did was send me to the media centre to pick up a vest.
Even though I wasn't media I was part of the party that booked the track and the vest provided me with better visibility to drivers and other marchals - all good stuff. Seriously, have a chat with the marshals before you get started - they are there to help and in my (limited) experience will go out of there way to point you to safe (and quality) spots.

I absolutly agree with you mate, i was in thw wrong and the marshall was absolutly fine about it, infact we had a chat for about 5 mins about various things to do with motorsport.

there was another guy there who also got collared for doing the same thing.

sometimes its really hard to get the angle without being inline with or infront of the fence.

it most certainly is the new cayman :) looked and sounded awesome.

Im sure some of you guys will be able to help me, what i really want to know is how i can get the other side of the fence properly.

i have been looking at various types of insurance that include indemnity cover i think it is worth 1.5 million per incidant.

what EXACTLY do you need to do/have to be the other side of the fence??

cheers

Yep, we've all been there and most have probably been tempted to sneak through a gate just to get a better shot, but ultimately it's self-defeating...

For trackdays, if you're covering it for a car club i should think getting the organiser / club secretary etc to arrange things for you would be the way to go, but they might ask for insurance. There's a thread or 2 on here about it aready if you do a bit of digging.

I recently insured my kit with Photoguard (thanks to Dave_G for the tip) who include £5million PLI cover in the deal.

i used to do some marshalling and whilst 99% of marshals are helpful and friendly, there are definelty a small minority that put on their orange suit and suddenly become mr self importance.

Goes with any "Uniformed" job but at the end of the day they're there for a reason so it's better to just grin & bear it :)

yup, i agree.. and at the end of the day if they want they could probably have your vest off you and get you kicked out :) Which is why i bit my tongue at the last one that started shouting at me for no good reason.

In most cases i make an effort to chat to them, because apart from anything else it just seems weird being in their presence and not even aknowledging them (as some photographers seem to do)

absolutely, nearly all of the marshalls i have ever spoken to are really nice guys.

they are there to do their jobs at the end of the day.

with regard to getting on the "proper" side of the fence i have looked into the photoguard insurance cover and it looks very promising indeed!!

if i wasnt shooting for a car club as mentioned in a previous post what else or how would i get accredition.

what else do you need apart from insurance?

sorry for all the questions i have spent quite a while looking for these answers in a lot of different places.

thanks

You need to have had images published or a letter from the editor of a relevant publication or website to support you application.

Pics look Very well indeed mate... love them..
as with yourselves i have had a few encounters with Marshalls at various events at different stages of life.....
Mainly cause i wasnt sure of the rules and bein "manly" i knew better and decided i could do what i liked... untill 1 of them clipped me round the ear (so to speak) and gave me a bit of advice....
Turned out he was an ameture photographer aswell and had learned the same way as myself... lol
Anyway he was by no means the least friendly of them... 1 of them on another occasion got pissed off with kid throwin things arround and threatened to evict me for leanin over the barrier even tho i was still behind it.....
