Not posted much hockey recently... so here's a quick batch from this weekend... yet another Cup Final as well

Quick rough'n'ready team pic for starters - shot straight into the sun in a shadowy goalmouth with some fairly hefty fill flash just to confuse the other photographers present (silhouette-tastic) ;) ...

Splish, splash, splosh...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/ooo001.jpg

Who's gonna get there first?...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/ooo002.jpg

A spot of damp lunging...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/ooo003.jpg

Keeping a close eye on the little white dooberry...

Get low for effective tackling...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/ooo004.jpg

Oh yes... that'll be the winning goal...

Post-match de-brief from above...

A quick presentation shot (trying to find the only angle where there weren't whole bunches of colourfully shirted individuals in the background). Always keep your wits about you: From any other angle this would have been even worse than it turned out... and there was no room to go backwards to shoot with a longer focal length...

...and the traditional team group to finish (nearly accomplishing the aim of eliminating the background distractions)...

Cheers for peeking!

Those Higgins lassies are simply dreamy! Great shots! Nice action. Didn't know it was a watersport.

#2 is the one for me Gavin, colours are so crisp and vibrant.

For the 'overhead shot' were you just holding the camera up above or standing on your Peli case/ladder ?

Gavin ,

These are very nice . The hockey season here has finished and now moved onto Cricket , tennis , rowing , polo (horses) , water polo (no horses) and swimming . I do miss hockey , the astro here is dry I must ask why because it does make the shot.

Now that turf is totally saturated with water! Nice shots, good exposure and nice and sharp.

For the 'overhead shot' were you just holding the camera up above or standing on your Peli case/ladder ?Cheers Marc! The overhead shot was achieved by holding the camera up as high as I could and ultra-rapid chimping ;)

RoyCheers Roy! The water-based pitches are designed to cut down on injuries and to stop the ball flying up off of the astroturf... however, they are pretty expensive to install by all accounts - you need a set of (6) water-cannons to flood the playing surface prior to each match... dangerous for togs as well!

I love those pictures, like the second one, with the water splashing up from the stick. It give so much more to the sense of action.

Nice series Gavin! My favourite is "splish splash"- I love how you've captured the water, stick on ball, and the defender "floating" in mid air- sweet.

superb

whenever I look at your shots I am always amazed at how sharp they look and how bright the colours are. now I know you dont shoot RAW so it's not that, so what is it?! :)

is it L glass, 1 series bodies or 1/1000s shutter speed?

or a combination of all 3? lol
