.......my trusty S40 found floating in a small pool of water inside a bag that had also a broken plastic bottle of water ....i let it out to dry for days... i tried several times to turn it on ...the cap open and of course stuck without unfolding the lens.....it seems dead...i'm going to contact Canon's Service those days......are there any chances....or corrosion is the end ??
Anyone ??? .....mere guess-work is ok......

Shame in a sense you tried to turn it on before ensuring it was dry as this may - perhaps - not have helped matters. Anyway, that said IMHO you could try removing the battery(s), leaving the CF card door open and place it in a warm place inside a sealed plastic bag with a large heap of dry (blue) silica gel cystals. Alternatively have you tried a hair drier on it (set to warm - not hot!) again with all batteries removed and all doors open. Water can take a long time to go from items like cameras!

On the hopeful side is was nice clean water that shouldn't have left (leave) any nasty residue to gum up the works.

Can you see any misting/residue on the lenses - oops no of course not until you can get the camera to power up!

.....i realised immediately that it was stupid to open the cap (which eventually stucked..)but i was terrified when i saw the water to infiltrate the four corners of LCD screen ... well after a couple of minutes dissapeared (?).......
anyway i will try the hair dryer "solution" tonight...
thanx for your tips

Even if it does work, it's life is dramatically shortened. Life after water may exist, but corrosion may have already started, and during damp weather, the camera may lock up (due to shorts developing on the circuit board in high humidity) only to function again when the air dries out.

Repaired cameras may or may not have a full life afterwards.

Get your estimate from Canon, and in the mean time, look at the different models out their, and their costs.

Water resistant models are available ( I don't think Canon makes a Point And Shoot digital water resistant one though) but they are generally more expensive.
