I definately learned a lot for the next time I head out.
It was raining in the morning, turned to sleet for about an hour, and then everything just stayed wet and cold. 40 degrees out the whole day.
This guy is from Team Uphoria, individually they played pretty well all day, but ended up trailing in the rankings because they didnt have their communication down.

The Dirty Scots. This team was a bunch of cheaters. One of thier guys got booted from the tournament in the first round for having his gun set to full auto. They continued to lose points throughout the day for cheating.

Team Psuedo Proxy. All using pump guns. Everyone else was using $1500 guns that can fire about 7000 balls a second. These guys came in 9th overall, and were by far the most fun to watch.

Another shot of one of the pump guys. 10 shots at a time in the gun. In this type of game, they reloaded quite a bit.

I was shooting with the 350D and a borrowed Canon 75-300(slooow focus). ISO 800, aperture at the lowest it could go (4.5-5.6?, I forget what this lense is) and shutter speed up around 1/800-1/1000 all day.

:D i guess you can't really set too high of an expectation for cleanliness from a team called the "Dirty Scots" though. great shots, considering the crappy weather. did you McGuyver a "raincoat" for your rig?

I did not do anything to shield it from rain. When I wasnt shooting, I had my arms crossed, with it in my right hand, under my left arm, so it stayed out of the rain. When I was shooting, well, I was shooting, and it was fully exposed. It wasnt really pouring out, but it was coming down enough so that it was puddling up on top of the camera. The hardest part was keeping rain off of the front element so it didnt show up in the pics.

Those are some good shots for a first time out! They're all cropped where they need to be so theres not a lot of empty space in the background.
And those guys with pump guns are insane! I paintball and I'd be scared to death to play some of the speedball teams shooting 20+BPS with a normal gun, let alone a pump. That is all about strategy and waiting for an open shot. ESPN has had paintball on the past two weeks which is nice because OLN and Spike TV are the only ones that have had paintball on TV before. It's about time the sport got recognized, I've seen freakin scrabble tournaments on espn...

Thanks for the compliments. These shots are pretty much straight out 3eof the camera. I did a slight levels and curves adjustment on the first one, and the rest are untouched. They could probably use some sharpening though.

I think these are really nice. I play pump religiously in speedball 5-man tournaments in my area.....its risky, but absolutely fantastically fun.

Looking to hire someone? :D
I actually did a search for paintball on the forums and read all I could, looking at Exif info for all the pics I found. That may be cheating a bit. I also read (I think it was you that said it) about "loading up" on a player when you think action was going to happen. I only did that a couple of times, with no luck.
I had actually been out once before, but it was just a game behind a kids house, nothing like this. I stayed for about 10 minutes, and then it started pouring so they all packed up. I didnt count that time.

Their not bad. But Paintball is all about angles, try to find a diffrent angle to get diffrent looking shots. I've been playing Paintball since I was 11 but quit this year, I would love to get into Paintball photography, but theres no field for around 140 miles

Is that true?

No, I exaggerated a little bit. I think most "normal" guns shoot around 20-25 balls per second, with some of the faster ones going up to 35 or so. The problem withshooting 35 balls a second is that the hopper cant keep up, so I've heard.

Most leagues cap at 15-18 balls per second

Awsome shots..especially for your first time. You said you took em with the 75-300. Was it the IS version or the regular version?

Regular version. I believe it was an old old version of the lense. The person I borrowed it from use to use it on their film camera, but they could have just upgraded to digital this year, not sure.
It was very slow to focus, that was the most annoying thing. It also wasnt a fast lense by any means, but on this occasion, that didnt matter because I had decent lighting. Today I went and shot a woods game, and I had to bump up ISO to 400 with my 70-200f/4 + 1.4x to get good shutter speeds. I wish I had the 2.8, but it wasnt that big of a deal. No matter how good yours tuff is, there is always one more lense that is just out of reach that you believe will make all the difference in your pictures. I need to work on the 6" behind the camera, and then worry about gear.
