Hi all,
As promised, I would do my first impressions and this is with some early thoughts on the pics I've taken so far. When it finally came, I looked it over and first it is not, repeat not a lightweight lens. It is between 5-6 pounds. This is one serious looking piece of equipment (or kit to the British)! When I got home and attached it to my 10D I was impressed! It now looks like a serious looking pro camera vs the 28-80mm lens I hd been using. I took some pics at F2.8 just to see what the pics looked like and zoomed in using the 10x zoom it has on the camera. I now understand the importance of using quality glass! I could tell the difference is night and day. It is a 105 mm filter on the end and they are not cheap! I'm happy to say that it got its first real test in Wales and I'm still looking over the pics. I've only had a quick look at the pics. I'm trying to find the ones of Carreg Cennen Castle. I was a long ways away and zoomed right in on it and was wowed by the sharpness of the pics from the LCD screen! So that said, I'm quite pleased with the pics I've seen so far with this lens. I have yet to have an "Err 99" with this one so far. That said, if you have the $$$ floating and want a super fast lens and it can and will deliver. I have no doubt.
To be continued...

Thanks Canuck :)

You know I am dieing to see how this works out! I can't wait to see some photos!

Just think,.. another $160.00 or so on a Sigma 2X teleconverter and you have a 600mm f/5.6!!!!

P.S.,. regarding that 105mm filter thread,.. (I can imagine how costly those filters are :( )

Check out this thread,. it is something that had never occured to me,. and it may prove to be quite usefull info.
