This shot was taken yesterday on my visit to Caerlaverock Castle (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=162329), and shows the moat from one of the castle windows.

This is excellent framing and a lovely scene, John. How did you take care of the dark inside and bright daylight?

Thank you all. :)
Olli, I did try some with the in-built flash, but this one was just taken through the window with a number of levels on selected areas of the stonework.

John I've given you 5 stars because I think that shot is amazing :D
The framing is excellent, so are the colours, as is the exposure and the subject :)
The swans ??? was that great timing on your part ??
Or have you tempted them over with a few treats ;)
Thanks for sharing :)

And an extra thank you to Scottie for my first ever 5-star rating. :) The composition was easy - i.e. the window was already there, I deliberately took it at an angle for more interest, and I had been following the swans as they swam around the moat, so I was ready for them.

Love it! The exposure is great, showing both the inside and the outside of the window well. And the swans are just the icing on a very good cake! Good job!

Ah, John, it's a real beauty, and worthy of the stars. Well done.

Thanks Becca and Stan. The exposure was ok for the outside shot Becca, but I needed to do some levels to bring up the stonework though. ;)

Thanks Trevor. The ironic thing was that I had opened the photo in Photoshop to fix for my own benefit, and my wife said that she liked it. I decided to post the photo, and have been pleasantly surprised at the nice comments, especially when I hadn't thought much about the photo in the first place. :)

Greetings John, Very good pic (as always). Along with your great composition, I think that the swans add the fifth star. KC

Great choice of frame! I like the frame better than the rest of the shot!
This doesn't mesn the shot is just about the frame!
Great job!

Excellent shot, John. As everyone else has said, good framing and a well exposed shot (even if you needed to work on it a bit in CS2). The swans really finish it off nicely. Who needs reflections when the rest is so good;)

I was deliberately trying to catch the swans in the frame, so I dashed into position just slightly later than I would have liked, but the effect is not too bad. As to mirror-finished water, I can only hope to see some some day. :)

Thank you Carol and Reigh. I've taken around 3000 photos since getting the 350D, but I've still yet to get around to printing to any great extent, let along being organised enough to frame them. :)

Thanks Dimitri. If it is any consolation, the weather in Edinburgh is great today. :p As mentioned in Cameron's thread, congratulations on making it past the 5000 mark!

Talk about a text book shot:-) That is awesome! Love how you made sure not to leave the inside dark. Very cool.

Thank you Keith. To be honest though, I mainly concentrated on the exposure of the scene through the window and relied on sufficient indoor light not to make the stonework too dark that I couldn't then tweak with some levels adjuments.

I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said. I thought I had already posted in this thread, but I guess I never got around to it. Really nice shot, John. :D
