Wohooooooo
I recieved my 100-400 IS L today :)

I had been pondering either this lens or the 400 5.6 prime....
decided in the end that the versatility and IS of the zoom would suit me better

havn't had the time today to take it out for a field test, hope it's dry tomorrow

it's my 1st L lens and i just gotta say i'm blown away with the quality so far..

Hey, nice! Congrats, it's a stellar lens.

Would love to see some nice pix of the lens itself. I'm tossing around various super tele options including this one but am leaning towards the 400mm f/5.6.

Yeah DN........ I had 100% decided on the prime 400mm :)

until i tried both out in a shop the prime was marginally (and a very small margin) sharper.... the zoom just felt better and more versatile for framing shots using the zoom and stuff

normally when i buy a lens i just get it off some shop on the net after looking at what i need "on paper"
this one was a pretty BIG purchase so i had to make the right descision....

tried them out in a shop THEN got it off the net :)

I'll take some nice closeup shots with my macro lens of it for you at the weekend ;)

You're lucky - my closest shop that would even remotely have something of this nature is B&H in the city. All the local shops around here suck.

So far, I knew what lenses I wanted, so ordering off the 'Net was a no-brainer. This one isn't turning out so easy. LOL.

The 100-400mm isn't weathersealed, correct? I've begun to REALLY love that feature. I was standing out in the pouring rain, snapping away this weekend - while the local newspaper photog was hiding under an awning. :-P

Congrats ,I think you will love this lens. Be sure to get enough shutter speed. Boost the ISO if need be. Stop down a couple of stops and the pics will be phenominal.

Congrats on the lens. But, be sure to keep buying some stuff at that local shop just to keep them friendly.:D And in business. I buy mayor stuff from B&H and get tripods, heads, reflectors, filters ...etc. locally, so the guys there still love to see me come in. They understand they can't compete when it comes to a large purchase+taxes. But I am willing to pay more for the under $500.00 stuff so I can have them around.

yeah I totally agree...

I bought my camera and my macro lens from them..... and like you i buy all the little stuff from them also.... like bags, cleaning equipment and filters etc unfortunately for them on this occasion the savings i got on the web were just too much to allow being kind to your fellow man :)
I will however plug their shop............ my very helpful and friendly local camera store is Photo Optix in Glasgows Saint Enoch center...(there's at least 5 good photography shops in Glasgow but this one is my fave)..theres an assistant that works in there (japanese guy).... he's forgotten more about cameras than i know :)
