Well.. probably about time I made a small contribution to this 'new' forum ;) ... OK, so it's taken me some time to get used to having the motorsport stuff extracted from the sports forum

Anyway... here are a few speedway images from the season thus far. A bit of a mixed bag for good measure.

A little bit of racing symmetry coming through the second bend...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed003.jpg

Hurry up and get that bike to the start line matey boy...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed005.jpg

Not exactly a panning shutter speed (1/500s)... but slightly compensated by the fact this was shot handheld with a 300mm f/2.8 at very close quarters...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed004.jpg

The stepladders will get some use this season. Shot from the crown of the bend, over the air barrier at jolly old ISO 3200 - a new angle for me...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed010.jpg

It can get very, very, very tight going into that first corner...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed008.jpg

A bog-standard three bikes round the curve pic...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed006.jpg

Another individual shot with some backlighting, from a slightly different angle...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed009.jpg

Four bikes in the frame again... this time strung out coming through the second bend...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed002.jpg

Track conditions can be a bit grim at times...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed007.jpg

A vital heat 14 victory to clinch the aggregate win... shot using the one good floodlight at the track as the only source of illumination... the joys of ISO 3200 again...

http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/forum_images/speed001.jpg

Another 'newsworthy' image taken in extremely gloomy conditions... a two-bike race-off for the bonus point...

Ta for looking.

Gavin these are fantastic, I love the speedway and I don't get enough opportunity to go. The last shot, full slide and wheel in the air, great riding and well caught......also love #7, full slide dirt kicking up, sharp as a tack and great light. All the others are excellent too, enjoyed these immensely.
Roger.

I am liking the outside radius shots better as you have the riders looking straight on at you... they have a really nice look to them. They all are good, but these mix the bag up some. Cheers.

Don't these conflict with cricket? A couple here are about as good as it gets! Just wish you hadn't gotten all that dust on my monitor! :-)

Roger. Thanks Roger... glad you like 'em... good to get some feedback from someone who dabbles in some bike riding themselves... ;)

That's the problem with being a rider and ptotog.
Not usually many photos of you riding :(

As I ride like a nana that may be a good thing though.
But there is always photoshop to make a riding god of me :D

Cheers. Thanks Mark... courtesy of the stepladders, I have a few more options open now... the inside shots are very much the 'traditional' view of the sport... but, even though speedway takes place on a short oval track, there are numerous options depending on focal length used and shooting position.

---- Gavin...and I should add that it can be tough to cram all four riders into the frame when shooting at 300mm from the outside of the bend... but sometimes they line up nicely. Here's one from last Friday night:

Well, I haven't heard back from my cricket enquirey ... but I am not giving up. Oh, some of my account receivables arrived so I need to decide on PM or BB et alia. Any final opinion?

I think I'm going to move over to PM during the course of the summer - it's seems to be the better 'integrated-all-round' option. I'll probably upgrade the laptop this year as well so that will hopefully ensure it runs as fast as BB. The PhotoShelter upload option has, I think, taken me over the edge ;)

OK, you've convinced me. :-) Keep me apprised of what laptop you get and why ... mine is getting a little long in the tooth (three years) and I will be ready to upgrade this year also.
