For such a great performing digi-cam the way the dial icons are "painted" on really baffles me. Why couldn't Canon stamp them into the dial or etch them in? My icons are peeling off like fake nike emblem on a hanes t-shirt.

Anyone have any remedies? Pretty soon that dial will just be blank and I'll have to look up which mode it's in through the LCD.

Mine are still intact. This is a common problem though, and Canon should fix it :\ But you'll have to be w/o your cam for a bit..

Have you tried varnish or "new skin"? I find "New skin" is great for remotes etc that often have this probem. I agree tho - you really shouldn't need to!

My blue icons, the 'checkerboard' and 'JUMP' is also fading away, and I've had this camera for only 5 days!!!
This is very bad build quality, I'm really dissapointed with Canon.

I used to think they are a premium brand, but it seems they don't think very high about their digital compacts..
Maybe the more expensive SLR's still are premium - but hey arent all expensive cameras considered that??

This and the driver issue is just embarrassing!

Is it really covered under warranty? I might actually consider...

Where can I get that stuff? What does it do? Is it like a clear coat super glue that forms on top of the dial?

5 days eh? I didn't have that problem with mine. Just the dial and this was after 3000 shots in the period of 3 months.

I really don't think it's the build quality of the camera that needs to be questioned. I love how it performs, day in day out It's just that some doofhead in the production dept decided to cut costs by spackling on the icons rather than engraving them in.

I'm surprised you're having trouble with your zoombrowser. It may or may not be a driver issue you know. Unfortunately I have a built in CF card reader into my PC, which I use instead of plugging the camera in so I can't really help you out. If you feel at peace switching back to Sony then by all means do so. Other than very minute details Canon hasn't disappointed me.

Re 'new skin'. In the UK it is readily obtainable at any chemist such as 'Boots'. It's meant for painting on grazes and the like - hence the name - but it's brill at coating things to stop writing etc rubbing off. Totally permenant as far as I can tell - I certainly have a 5 year old remote still on it's first coat.
