View Full Version : Who will deliver to a work address?

...without jumping through a bunch of hoops that is. I don't want to take off work to wait for a delivery truck.
Dell - yes
OneCall - yes
B&H Photo Video - no
Newegg - no
B&H sent me an e-mail telling me to listen to my answering machine and follow the directions. The answering machine had someone with some sort of a Brooklyn accent talking 90 miles an hour in a monotone voice and I didn't understand two words he said. (us poor country boys just don't understand them high-falootin' east-coast city folk)
OneCall delivered a couple of lenses I ordered to my work with no problem at all. I'd deal with them for everything I need but unfortunately they don't have a huge selection.
I see from their website that Newegg wants you to get special permission from your credit card company. Who wants to go through that if they don't have to?
So... is there anyone else that is easy to deal with?

Bill, while I understand your frustration I applaud any vendor that goes to the extra effort to foil credit card fraud. A typical type of this fraud is to steal the card, or just the number, then order as much merchandise as possible and have it ship to someone other than the card holder. Many vendors refuse to ship to other than the address of the card holder to thwart just such a con.
True security is neither easy nor convenient.

I understand what you are saying. The way around that is to require registration and a username/password login to order. It works fine for online banking and most web businesses.
I like to conduct my online business in the quiet early morning hours. I'm talking 3-5 am here. If I have to call them it would have to be during work and that totally negates any advantage from trying to do business online. I don't mind popping out a quick e-mail during work but sitting on the phone waiting for someone to answer doesn't cut it.
That's why I'm looking for online vendors that truly do their business online. It's worth a few dollars extra to avoid the inconvenience of phone calls.

I'm pretty sure all you have to do is talk to your bank or credit card company and have them add your work address as a second address for your card. Do this once and you shouldn't have any problems ordering from anyone in the future.

B&H and NewEgg deliver stuff to me at work all the time without any problems. Like you no one is at home during the day to accept deliveries.

I didn't know about Amazon. I've never had to sign a delivery receipt on any of my orders from Amazon so it's never been an issue with them.
I had to spend 20 minutes on the phone with B&H to get them to deliver. It might be worth it if I never have to do it again. Did I mention how much I hate being on hold?
Thanks everybody.

B&H and 17th Street Photo will deliver to my work address.
I generally call their 800 number and order over the phone. That way I can explain what I want if they have questions. Just as fast or faster than on line and you can ask questions too.

B&H delivers to my work address all the time. I order mostly over the Web. I gave them my billing address and my delivery address, and the stuff flies in - no problem.
My 2 cents.
Have Fun,

I have had all these guys deliver to my work address, just make sure for large purchases that you call up the credit card company and ask them to put your work address on file.
Edit:
Working in the ecommerce business, I have seen many fraudulent credit card transactions. Unfortunately the merchant losses every time, not to mention the poor person who got their card stolen.

I guess there is a plus being here in our little corner of the world - any shipment from overseas gets stuck in customs waiting for us to pay up (tax) before delivery so that's a really good point to get the parcel re-directed to a work address. I've had three of my lenses and a 20D delivered that way.

I've gotten B&H and Adorama deliveries at work (not needed this recently); all that was really needed was to one-time list an "alternate delivery address" or "alternate address" with the credit card company.

This is absolutely true.
Call your card company, or even bank and add your work address as a secondary address. Just make sure you say secondary. If you do this. You can even get your work address as a confirmed address on paypal!
I have 3 address confirmed on paypal by having 2 others listed as secondary on my credit cards (grandfathers place in fl, used to live, current house in MA, and work).
As long as the address you are using matches the card. They will ship. It is a security thing.

I've not contacted my credit card company about any secondary addresses, but both B&H Photo and Buydig shipped to my work address. Both were within the last 60 days.

I order primarily from Amazon or Adorama through the Amazon website. Both will deliver to my work address with no hassle.

Some credit card companys usually require this for large purchases, as stated before. But not all credit card companies adhere to the same business practices.

I've never had a problem with B&H delivering to my work, but most of my purchases have been $500 or less. As long as it's not a P.O. box you shouldn't have any trouble. I think B&H pended one of my boyfriend's orders once for verification, but I don't remember exactly why.
