hello, this may seem as a trivial question to you,
but this f-cking zoombrowser ****ty browser is getting on my nerves..!

I was once a happy sony user that plugged in the camera and automatically had a new drive which I could move files in and out and do whatever I wished to - just like an ordinary drive.

but now with this canon crap, you have to have XP for doing this???
why am I soo mad?! because today the zoom****ebrowser was copying my files to the HD and someway somewhere near the middle it seems to have stopped - without me knowing about this (was busy doing other things) - and I as usual emptied the card - by once again entering the pissbrowser, selecting the camera, selecting all files and hitting delete......

If this would have been my old sony, I would have done all this in one single step! ctrl-x -> ctrl-c . with absolute reassurement that the files had been transferred.

so now I've downloaded a couple of "image rescuers" which all search for a drive to rescue - but there is no f-cking drive !! because of the ****ty drivers that came with this crap!!!!! aaaaarrrrghhhhhhh!!!!

so now I have to find a PC with XP to try to recover my files!! (which btw. is the biggest crap ever, I will never let it touch my harddrive)

so my question....

is there any way of showing the contents of my camera memory storage like a normal logical drive with win2K?

I saw in the manual something about changing transfer protocol to PTP but don't know how to set this in camera.

help me..!

Just buy a CF card reader (about $20). It will show up as a drive. By the way, please try to restrain from using obsenities in this forum. We'd all appreciate it.

Untill recently there were no cameras that appear as a drive letter in any version of Windows. They needed proprietary software to download the images.

Then some cameras made the big leap where all it reqired was driver to be installed for the camera to show up as a drive letter.

All of this is rather idiotic as the generic "USB MAss Storage Device" driver SHOULD be all that is needed,. and indeed there are true plug and play cameras that function this way. Sony and Olympus were two of the early smart adopters.

I am not sure the state of Canon's USB compatibility (I insist on a Card Reader) but I'm pretty sure at the very least a driver is needed.

This is a good part of why I still feel a Card reader is the only way to fly (or download)

I like drive letters that stay in one place (i have lots of drives and I insist on the same drive letter every time so my batch files don't have to be rewritten :) )

excuse my language JohnnyE, but I was - and still am - very angry about the incident!

I don't need no stinkin browsers to transfer my files, this way of working is very restricting and timeconsuming, just plain lame..

Let's see if I will keep this **** long enough to buy an extra CF drive or maybe just sell it and buy a new sony..

You know, it's hard to help someone that doesn't want to be helped...Did you just come here to rant or do you want solutions to your 'problems'? You rejected two answers because you didn't like them, so what are we supposed to say?

Connecting the camera directly to the computer to transfer files is the old, slow way of doing things. The easiest, fastest way is to use a 'USB card reader' (USB 2 if your computer has it). Taking the CF card out of the camera and putting it into the card reader isn't time consuming, and the frustration saved by not trying to use the cameras crappy software is priceless.

Now where is the problem?

When i download my pics from the camera (G5), zoombrowser starts and i can select in which folder i want to put the files. If i use my CF-Card Reader (Sandisk 6 in 1, USB2.0) a window pops up and i can select if i whould rather like to start Zoombrowser or download to a folder/drive. Win XP pro, which i use, recognizes the Reader and automaticaly creates drive letters when pluged on.

Regards

PS: Watch your language. Most people on this forum (as for myself) dislike that kind of speech.

Some people actually do research before they buy so that they don't have reasons to complain later.

Buy a card reader, it will solve all your problems.

First of all, watch your language - it is not appropriate in this forum like in Sony forums! If you need a help - this is not the way to ask.

Regarding your problem:
Go to www.breezesys.com and download Breeze Downloader (free). You would not be able to delete an image before downloading it to the computer in Breeze Downloader.
Also BreezeBrowser is a favorite Raw convertor software for many people in these Canon forum.

Regarding Canon ZoomBrowser downloading (you did not specify your sw version) - after starting downloading of your images just click on different folder on the left panel - it would prevent the slow update of the Zoombrowser DB after downloading. After the downloading your images use Canon Raw Converter separately for converting Raw images and Adobe Photoshop for other processing.

Greetings,
Roumen

as I already said I'M SORRY FOR MY LANGUAGE.... jeezus..

maybe you don't curse when mad, maybe you say nice things, I don't know but once again I was very angry as I have already explained (this is the 3rd time now......)

but all answers I've got are only workarounds of the real problem - the lack of compatibility with the "USB MAss Storage Device" driver, as mr CyberDyneSystems so nicely puts it.

my question was merely if there was another way of getting around this (to get the same functionality with win2k as with XP/mac) but there seems to exist no such solution.

please do not post more comments about my language or tell me that I can buy a CF drive, I got the message already ok?

Hmm, try Total Commander from http://www.ghisler.com/ , this is actually a file commander like the good old Norton Commander for Dos. Has nothing to do with Picture Browsers, anyway, a great piece of software.

I use a multi-card reader.

My camera uses compact flash; my DV cam, SD; my Palm and MP3 player, MMC; sometimes I need to use Memory Stick. All supported by the multi-card reader.

And you want fast? I find popping in the card much faster than fumbling with cables. Plus, there are different cables for different devices which adds to the hassle.

I can't imagine now not having my trusty multi-card reader. :)

By the way, yes, the card comes up as a drive when you pop it in.
