Hi,

I have a big problem! I have got an A70. I was very happy with this camera, untill an error E18 appeared. The lens did not want to go back inside, to it's place!
When I am puting the camera on, the lens is trying to go to it's position. But it looks like it's stuck and it's making a strange noise! Then the A70 shows me the error E18 on the display! I am puting the camera off and then on again but this time I am helping the lens by hand...Now I can see the dispay is functioning. The autofocus does not work. It's only focused when I use the zoom-funtion!

Can somebody please help me with this problem?

Thanks,

George

Your only help on this is likely through Canon repairs.

It sounds like there is a failure of some sort (malfunction or obstruction) in the tracking mechanism which will stop the lens movement. "Helping it" may actually cause more harm so be careful. The motor is not very strong, and will stop if it can't progress. Forcing it may break a gear, or warp something.

Best bet is to get that camera to a certified repair depot for repair. It may be covered under warranty, so the dealer must be authorized by Canon. Best service may come directly from Canon (since they have been trained on repair of your camera.)

Hi there.

I had the same problem with my camera in Disneyland above all places. What a disappointment. However; as I purchased an extended warranty; I just returned it to the dealership and got a new one.

I had also contacted Canon, Canada; and they replied that they would repair the same. All I had to do was mail it to them. I think they said the turn around time was three weeks.

A word of caution; do not put the camera in your pocket. From my experience; the lens is quite sensitive and any pressure on it produces the error

take care

I got this aswell, but I just exchanged the batterypack, and it has not returned yet.
It was just a lack of juice in the batteries that made the lens stick in it's place.
But should it return, I'll send it in for sure
