Hi,

I would like to know one thing. How do I make the convertion from X's (3x zoom) to 35mm equivalent?

Let's get an example.
Canon S45
Focal lengh : 7.1-21.3mm
35mm equivalent from Canon website : 35-105mm

If I understand 7.1 digital = 35mm in 35mm, full wide
Full telephoto 3X 21.3mm digital = 105mm in 35mm

And now what happenned if I add add-on lens

If I add an 2x Telephoto
Full tele 21.3 x 2 = 42.6mm or 105x2 = 210 in 35mm

Finaly, If I buy the CrystalVue 8x32 (8x zoom)
My S45 in full Tele will have 21.3x8 = 170.4 or 105x8 = 840mm in 35mm

It seem too good to be true... please confirm or tell me the right way to calculate this.... I know this is a pretty newbie question.

Your math seems viable.

But take a good look at the link you provided at the bottom. See the Canon S50 shots. Which of the four shots are clear. The ones without the CrystalVue. It is not even close to the quality you would expect from a 35mm camera's 800mm. It does seem like it would be fun though.

You're right.. is not really clear shoots.

Maybe I should just keep my 3X zoom and save for a future EOS Digital.
