Some sunshine today (finally) here's a selection of todays shots:

Little hoverfly:

Another hoverfly:

Ichneumon, first I've seen this year. I shot this using AF servo to see how well it coped as these guys don't stay still. The AF did ok but not being able to pick the exact point of focus limited the results somewhat.

Drone fly. This one was friendly as anything, even landed on my hand and started hoovering up.

Bee #1:

Bee #2:

and finally, this little wolf spider. Their breeding season is just starting and I think she was being all romantic after being given flowers :)

They are all very nice shots. I really like the compositon of #4 great angle! # 6 stands out to me as well. Love the lighting and the tones. :)

Wow, the bee 1 photo , what a cracker, i could dive in all that pollen myself.
I must Practice, but UK weather apart from today that is, is diabolical.

Cheers Chris.

All great shots, I like bee 1, think it is the yellow pollen grains and the yellow flower together.

Wow, what kind of lens do you use, and how far away from the actual subject are you??

I've been having trouble obtaining sharpness like that for macro insects.

Thanks folks.

Keeny, sometimes not having the sun works well as long as it's bright then overcast conditions can produce some lovely light - no harsh shadows or highlights. The last 3 shots above were taken while the sun was behind cloud. I've been thinking about making some kind of portable diffuser for sunny days...

Lovely shots. I like them all!!! If I had to pick favourites, it'd be the little hoverfly and the drone fly shots :)

Beautiful series pxl8.
Love the compo in #2, the textures and compo in #3, but #5 is superb- looks like a bee arising from the sun- the wolf spider shot is very cute as well.

Hi PKL8, I totally agree that overcast days produce better lighting and overall ambience, as for the weather i was referring to the rain in the uk, which here down in south wales is pretty much every day, that is until this week.
So maybe i'll be able to get out now and practice sneaking up on some insects, which gets me strange looks from passing people.

Cheers Chris.
