Leveling tripod vs normal tripod

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to get a tripod.. Gitzo offers a leveling centre column tripod. Is it worth the extra money for the a leveling ? or will a good ball head suffice ??

Sort of depends; you can always level a tripod by adjusting the legs, but that may be more time-consuming than using a center-column leveller. A ball head won't completely eliminate the need to level a tripod; if you're planning to pan you'll want the base of the tripod head to be level, and that means levelling the tripod, or at least the center column. If you're just locking the camera in place for a single frame, it doesn't matter.
