People talk about how they remember where they were when JFK was shot...I will always remember where i was when Glenn posted a pan shot on POTN

Great shots Glenn, and i really like the dynamics of the 2CV's, it can't take much more to roll one over.

 All this fuss over a little pan shot, I have posted them before you know

However, you've all missed something much rarer... I've actually posted some shots taken with the 100-400L. That hasn't happened for a very long time! ;)

Excellent, pleased you posted them. Squeezing those things through the bends looks interesting to say the least. Looks like you needed a face mask to filter the diesel particulates. A couple of friends of mine were in the 2CV race, I'll drop you a PM.

Did you notice that Euroboss are at Brands on Sunday?

Should you find your 100-400L surplus to requirement I will gladly relieve you of it :)

It's not that bad is it? Really? Those shots look (more than?) up to your usual standard to me.

Question re the pan: Which focus point did you use? Left of the viewfinder?

No, I suppose it's not. I've had a problem with the lens ever since it failed on me at Silverstone just over a year ago. More me than the lens, I just lack confidence in it. I decided that since I was doing two days at Pembrey with much the same running each day then I could afford to shoot most of day one with the 100-400L as a confidence building exercise. To be honest I was pleasantly surprised by the results. The shots weren't as consistenly good as I can get from the Sigma and I had a higher percentage of "misses" than normal but it wasn't as disasterous as I was expecting.

As for the pan, I dunno... I was just having a laugh! It will probably have been an off-centre one though as I rarely use the centre focus point for anything on the Mark II.

ta..!

I need to start altering my focus points as per Ken's thread, still seem to be stuck on the centre one.

I'm less keen on using an off-centre one on the 10D, they just don't seem to have the accuracy and the "keeper" rate falls off. I was talking to Simon about this on Sunday and he reckons he gets good results using the off-centre ones on the 20D.

Unfortunately I won't. I have another shooting commitment on those days.

Wowzers Glenn. Fabulous series. I really like your "landscape photography" shot with those beasties hustling through the bend. The up close and personal shot of the crunch with the 100-400 is also fantastic.

Thanks Skip :) One of the interesting things for me in shooting the truck series is that they are so big that it changes the choice of lens and angle I use at corners that I'm shooting week in, week out. That "landscape" shot doesn't really work with cars. They are too small in the frame to be of interest. I'd normally shoot a 500mm prime from there, not a zoom lens pulled back to around 180mm.

As long as you can track for a good second or two, it seems to work fine. Let's put it this way, I've managed to track motorbikes successfully using the far right focus point, and rallycross cars at ISO800 and underexposed by 1 stop as well.

Definately worth having a go at.

Cheers,

Simon.
