cleaning filters?

ok went out to a family 'get together' at the local pub and took camera for some shots..well the filter got splashed with beer(luckily only the filter got wet)is it safe to wash the filter in warm soapy water to clean it if not whats the best way to clean it???
p.s the camera stays at home for future 'get togethers' ..ill take the canon s50 next time.

I'm not an expert but it is my understanding that like cars (takes off all wax in one wash) you should not was a filter with dishsoap. It is very acidic and will actually hurt coatings and overtime etch glass. Eyeglass cleaner for coated lenses is a safe sustitute or just plain water until later.

I would use some lens cleaning solution and some lens tissue...do that and you should be set.

I don't know if it's good or not, but I do wash my filters with warm water and normal soap for washing dishes. And until now it doesn't look like something would be missing from them :)

Lens cleaning solution works well, its pretty cheap too.
Just follow the instructions, spray onto a tissue then wipe in circular motions.
My lenses and filters get covered in sea spray all the time so I clean them after a shoot.

I find that the lens cleaning solution leaves streaks. To get rid of the streaks I use some breath and a microfiber cloth, repeating until the streaks are gone.

I allso use formula mc,good stuff,I think hoya recomend it.:D
