I started working on my own website a few nights ago. I have most of it done I think, but I'm stuck on a name for the site. Should I.........

1. keep it simple and use my own name as the domain and site title.

2. come up with a completely seperate title for the domain name, keep my name out of it.

??????

not sure what to do.

Here's the site so far..

let me know what you think.

I would suggest using your name if at all possible.
korbanschwab.com is available!

Corbin,
You have built very nice site. I agree on using your name. Few observations
I wonder if your name in the first box would look better centered or if better not to have box(es) at all. 2nd Feature box, type runs through it. I love the graphic in center and layout of your wedding page and I love that shot of the waterfall with the birds in the snow.

I could be wrong, but it looks like you are either using Flash, or Java. Anyway, the firewall of my company will not let me through, due to that. Just receive an error on screen while opening the Images page.

That's what I forgot to add...I didn't have a problem view the pictures, but didn't really like the way they came up...wish it was smoother.

I'm in the process of building mine, all the advice I am getting is to stay away from flash. It just takes a long time to load for some and firewalls don't like it.

I like the simplicity of the site, I would like it better if I did not have to scroll down on the home page to see it all.

hmm, thanks for the input. I am using a flash gallery (made in photoshop), I tried a number of gallery type scenarios but had problems getting them to work at all, or look right when they did. The type of galleries I like are all flash or java based so I'm not sure exactly how you would create a gallery that doesn't include either (maybe if someone has an example or alternate ways to set up a gallery they could post a link).

The comment on the title banner I agree with, originally I had the site buttons included in the banner on the right side, but had to relocate them because they were on a seperate layer that shifted whenever I resized the page. I might redo the buttons and banner, not sure yet.

thanks for the input, I might try and fix some things tonight.

I like the idea of not having to scroll down to see the main page, so I might change some things to remedy that as well, kind of bugs me as well.

Any advice or help you could offer someone who is new to PS and wants to do what you are doing? I'm looking at buying a template, knowing it would need some changes?

Not sure about templates, I was thinking of going that route at one time as well.

I really think the black shows off pics the best.
I am using Black on mine that I am building right now.I am atleast a week off from finishing being that I am hand coding it.
I know you have to be so careful about buiding sites because if all viewers cant view them its not going to do you much good.
I have high security firewall etc on my computer and I can view it with no problems.

I'm not searching for any kind of business or anything with my site as of yet (maybe never), so if a few people can't view it at thier work I don't think it's a huge deal. If your company has blocked you from viewing it i'm sure they would rather have you working than trolling forums and surfing the web all day anyway.

nice site

nice pics

the white border on the opening page is a little shocking

the scroll bar on the nav is very good but a little small

can you somehow mouseover the scroll bar and make it move? - not sure how

web address names need to be easy to remember and spell

by white border do you mean around the photo on the first page? and as far as the scroll bar, I don't know if it can be changed i'll check, I just built the gallery section in PS and there aren't a whole lot of options really

Made a few changes tonight based on the feedback I recieved so far. I wish I could do more to edit the flash gallery, but it's pretty much the best I can get it without trying to learn flash from scratch. You may have to refresh your browsers to see changes.

Your titles should be more meaningful on each page .. not <title>Main Page</title>

You don't have text. It won't get crawled.

I think it will if he puts metadata in the html, won't it?
