First one's a keeper, second one is good (background is a harsh and distracting) third one is a bit noisy and pole could be cropped out. The bird in the last 2 is sweet.

Very nice shots. The first one gets my vote. Nice to have a back garden full of birds. ;-)

Zip,
Thanks for comments, do you know I didn't give the backgrounds any thought, concentrating on the birds to much but yes you're right it is distracting, will try to pp it later and the pole is easily removed, as for the noise its a rather heavy crop but didn't want to run noise ninjer for fear of softening to much, will look into it though. Thanks again for comments ( still only half way rounr that learning curve :) )

Sindri,
Thanks a lot, yes its a pretty secluded small walled garden which does attract the usual commoner types but it's a city center garden and I think the noise and hustle bustle restricts it somewhat but it is still lovely.;)
Kind regards Alan

Nicely exposed shots.
Amazing how brown a male Blackbird can be isn't it?

Hi Phreddie,
Thanks for comments but I was under the impression that this was a female blackbird, please correct me if I'm wrong ( not expecting the book you recomended until later today;) )

Alan,
Yes I though about this one quite a lot, and even got my books out. In the end I came down on it being a male mainly because of its bill being so yellow, and its breast feathers not having a pronounced mottling.
The other week I took a picture of an obvious male in my garden, and was quite surprised about how brown that one appeared on my computer. You'll have fun with the Collins and the above picture:lol:

The Blackbird is definitely a female. There's one that nests under the bullnose verandah outside my front door. Can't wait for spring. She usually has 2 clutches, so there will be plenty of opportunities to snap the youngun's. Especially when they leave the nest and huddle near the front door amongst the roses.

Wonderful shots, looks like a very setting in the garden. Obviously attractive to a great variety of birds. Thanks for sharing.
