I have been checking my backyard feeding area for new birds every day, usually just finches. Today a new one for me, a female Hooded Oriole (at least I think it is). Weather conditions, cloudy, gray skies.
Both at 1/250s f/8.0 at 400.0 mm iso400 with Flash (BB)

Nice captures, Dennis. You're getting skilled with your BB. Have you found that the birds are put off by it? I must have missed the post with the male Orioles. Those are very nice as well. Great colors. Those birds have quite a beak on them. My mother-in-law has an Oriole that shows up at her hummingbird feeder on occasion.

RonThanks Ron, If I start too early in the morning with the flash and they are really freaked out. If I wait until the ambient light is brighter, then the flash is not such a contrast, most will ignore the flashes. I had some great advice by Scottes for camera and flash settings that seem to work.

Nice shots Dennis! Great job on the birds can't say I like the background. Never seen a totally white sky. Did your flash blow it away?

ZipWell Zip, that is a good question, I think the exposure on the oriole is right, but the sky was a light gray due to the cloud cover. I had the camera adjusted to under expose the background and the flash was -1 FEC. Bottom line I don't know, I am still learning how to use the flash as fill. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
