IXUS 400 transfer rates and max memory

I have just got my hands on this great little digicam. As I am a noob I need some help regarding its memory.

Is the max memory the IXUS 400 can use 256mb and does it have to be Compactflash?

Is the IXUS 400 able to utilise the different transfer rates of some CF cards, i.e. would 12x make a significant difference compared to 8x in its operation?

Not sure where you've got 256MB from because the camera specs don't specify a maximum.
I know someone who uses a 512MB CF card in his IXUS 330 without a problem.

I would imagine the only limitation is how much you want to spend ! (A 1GB card will probably cost more than the camera)

I think you'd struggle to fit anything other than a CF card in too !!

You can use anything up to a 2GB CF (only) card in that cam. The higher speed cards won't make a difference in camera operation, but it will make a difference in the download/upload speed if you use a CF card reader.
