Here are a few from a recent track meet. My daughter took 1st in the 2 mile. The others are of the distance medley relay.

Those are good shots of your daughter. Too bad you got out of focus people in the foreground. That really takes away from the composition. Could you have possibly moved to a slightly different location to take the photos?

Track of that type is difficult. I've been trying it lately. Can't get many good shots of the runners. I'm sure you're very proud of your daughter. I'm proud of mine, and she comes in last place.

On a side note, isn't that gun annoying? When I'm not looking and nearby, it scares the crap out of me.

It is really difficult as everyone is crowded into one spot. This was actually the best spot I could get to.

I am extremely proud of all my daughters (I have been blessed with 4). It is difficult to get good shots and I am really quite happy with these. They do not allow anyone on the infield when the events are going on so these are all from outside the fence.

Yes, that gun scares the crap out of me too. You never get used to it and are never ready for it.

Well done under such conditions, it's hard not to be frustrated when people step in front of you.......I like the one of the starter with two pistols. Was he quick on the draw?

Have you talked to the coach or athletic director about gaining better access? You might offer some of your photos for the school to use. You certainly have the equipment to take great photos.

I've only been to two track meets, one college and one high school and I didn't have any problem at all getting onto the field. I acted like I knew what I was doing and made sure to stay out of everyones way. Nobody seemed to mind.

BTW, congrats to your daughter for doing so well in her race. All of your daughters are very lucky to have someone like you that really cares for them.

They do not even allow the coaches on the infield during the events. The only person who gets access other than the runners and the officials is the photographer from the local paper, and he has to contend with the same issues. Other runners hdling around the finish line is usually the biggest obstacle.

Thanks so much for the comments. I always thought that I was so lucky to have such wonderful children. In a world seemingly gone crazy they are amazingly level headed.

Doc, in these instances you need to get in a shoot tight. Your gear list show a 200 and a 1.4. use them both if you need to. It is better to have a good clear tight shot from the waist up then to have all the distractions around. Your sig says image editing is ok, I pulled #4 with the actual hand off and you can get a decent, not great crop of that one, the resolution is so low I am not going to repost it but give it a try on the original and post it up here and let us see.
Thanks for sharing,
Pete

Yes, I used the 200 with the 1.4X for these shots. You always get all the other runners crowding around the finish line and it really makes it difficult. I guess I have just overlooked that part of the photo as it is part and parcel of the meets.
