Hello,

I work for a small company with no budget to buy professional cameras, studio quality equipment, or hire a photographer. Using my Canon S110, I need to take photographs of walking canes for a client. I plan on taking the pictures indoors using a solid color background.

The problem is lighting. If I use my flash with the S110, the image will end up looking blasted with light in the center, and dark on the edges and corners (as im sure many people can relate to).

Would it be beneficial to purchase a relatively inexpensive shop light ($20-30) from a hardware store and use that to fill the area with light? I suppose I could then take the image using no flash, just letting the shop light take care of that?

All related information or suggestions are welcome!
Thank you!

There is a lot you could do on minimal budget. Be creative. Look around the house for natural or already present lights. Perhaps you just need a sheet or two of white paper or cloth to reflect or diffuse some light.

Keep the background clean (but need not be boring)Take lots of sample shots, and keep trying things.

Use the white balance on the camera to correct any colour shift. Try shots with built in flash and without.

If you have a tripod, use it. It'll save you much time and grief as you try lighting and reflector changes.
