I just order a new sigma 105 Macro EX lens. I just wanted to know if any one had the lens and how do you like it? It has a really good review on the photographyreview.com so I guess it is good. This will be my only lens that is not canon. I have given sigma a chance a few time and they always let me down. This lens will only by used for macro work so it will not be usede heavily like my other lenses do. So it should last the test of time.

I have the older version. It is the only non-Canon lense that I have kept. It is great for flowers.

I have been using this lens for about 4 months now and I really like it. Here are a couple of shots that I have taken with it.

I had one and sold it to buy a Canon USM. I really liked it but wanted all Canon lenses. The lens is razor sharp and you will be happy with it.

I am using my SIGMA 105/2.8 since May 2003 - it's a fantastic/funtastic lens!

Nice and razor sharp. I guess I will be happy with it. I do not care thats its not a USM canon as it will only be used for macro work.

Ref Gibmeister post--

WOW, I also have the Sigma 105 Ex macro but struggle to get any quantity of DoF. Your Mayfly must be at least 5cm wing span. How did you get the DoF and the resolution?

Was this shot digital (ie 10D) or film?

Coupling the technical challenge with the problems of being in the right place at the right time with the right lense, and still have time to compose, focus and shoot - You have my respect.

I too have the Sigma 105Ex Macro. It is my only non Canon lens. Very sharp, it seems to be warmer in colour transmission than Canon glass. Two problems to fix: auto focus motor jammed had to be repaired (under warranty); bought 10D and had to send it in for re-chipping because of 99 error noted widely on this forum. Good portait lens too!

Derek

Thanks for the compliments on my photo. I shot this picture with the Canon 10D using a shutter speed of 1/500th, ISO of 100 and Aperture of F6.7 and a tripod. My guess would be that I was about 5 feet from the subject. Some times it is better to be lucky than good.
